Changing Kicker motors

Greetings. I have 9.9 Suzuki kicker motor for a CD25. Just got a dinghy that can take a 5 or 6 hp motor. And, I would like to swap out the 9.9 for a 6 HP in order to use it both for the dinghy and as an emergency motor on the CD25. Do you think a 6Hp motor would do well enough?? Has anyone else tried this?

6 HP is plenty. I have posted several times in the past, that the boat I grew up on was considerably bigger than a C dory 25 and had a 5 hp outboard.

The kicker is one modality to keep you out of trouble. The 9.9, might give you a little more power going into the wind and perhaps waves.

The other question is what will 6 HP do for the dingy? Is it an air floor, or solid wood floor, with inflatable keel? 6 HP may get it up on a plane with a very light load…but mostly going to be a fast semi displacement speed if there is any load.

thank you for the replies. the dink is an air floor. I really do not care for speed on the dink, so 6 HP should work fine. Also, thank you for sending the recent threads----that discussion really hit the mark. I need to get better at searching the posts of the past.
