I'm not exactly sure where you wish to begin your trip but Southport Marina just south of Wilmington has very nice ramps and you can store your tow rig there.
South from there one of my favorite little places along that area is Calabash NC very close to the NC/SC border on the ICW. I'm not sure about dockage there but it's a favorite for "Calabash Style Seafood" and a few neat nautical type shops.
I don't know much about Myrtle Beach area as I remember it's pretty much condo lined. Georgetown has a pretty neat little waterfront and they have a really neat wooden boat show there but I'm unsure about the time of year. The Pee Dee River intersects here and goes pretty far inland and the Little Pee Dee portion of it is breathtaking but it's quit a ways up river.
Around Savannah the waterfront has docks and on the first saturday of every month they have arts and crafts shows on River Street which is the waterfront district with shops and restaurants many built from the ballast stones of old sailing ships. Just south of Savannah is the Ogeechee River which is I think on the National Registry of Senic Rivers.
Jekyl Island is pretty high price area but a little south Brunswick has several nice Marinas.
The Gem of the entire south east coast "To Me" is on the Fl/GA border, Cumberland Island. It's a National Park 20 miles long of untamed waterfront with deserted beaches, wild horses and other wildlife. You may have to wait for a spot at the two small visitors docks but it's well worth the wait. This island for the most part was owned many years ago by the Carnegie Family and was a plantation with a few old restored structures and a small museum with artifacts back 1,000 years or so.
West of Cumberland Island is Kings Bay a Nuclear Submarine base "with high security." It's said to have trained dolphins to detect intruders. South of this is the fishing village of Saint Mary's GA on the Saint Mary's River. There's a nice Marina here also with several Museums and nice restaurants.
If you made it this far it would be a shame not to go a few more miles into Florida and Fernandina Harbour Marina in the village of Fernandina. Fernandina is also a very old fishing village that is full of shops and restaurants all right on the water easy walking distance. They also have what's suppose to be the oldest bar in America "The Palace Saloon." If you catch the right weekend they have antique cars shows along the waterfront also. Fernandina is on Amelia Island which is where a lot of Antique Car buffs have homes. There's also a huge reconstructed Fort guarding the Fernandina Harbor at the Inlet on the Saint Mary's.
If you haven't run out of time go 12 miles south to MM 46A and I'm at the green boat house.
