Check Out My Newly Made Bookshelf

New photos in my album of this project.

I'm always looking for ways to store and organize stuff on board and I came up with this bookshelf. I used some leftover plastic from another project and utilized the space behind the table under the port gunnel amidship.

I made book ends on both sides to keep the books in. It also has a lip on the back that rests on the interior lapstrake chine. It also rests on the existing lip that supports the table in the down position. Yet it does not interfere with the table in either position.

nice idea if you dont have the sliding front seat. I think you will find that a bungee cord across the front of the books will be needed to keep them in place. Nice work.

I like it, have often thought of building some sort of storage pocket in that area. Some non-slip matt should hold the books in place or a small lip I would guess.
I do a lot of cabin projects in the winter; you’ve given me the starting point for one.

Here is what it looks like:

Nice job on the bookshelve.

I noticed a lot of daylight showing through a line of holes...am I to assume that you are redoing your rub rail also?

Keen eye you have. I wondered if anyone would catch that.

I have installed the metal rail using stainless screws with lock nuts. Tonight I have cleaned the rubber and will wait for warm weather this weekend to finish this job. It is easier to work with the warmer it is.

It seems that when a C-Dory gets about ten years old they need this done. I got some good advice from this forum by searching the archives. Thanks everyone, especially to Tad from Merritt Island for the photos of his job in progress.

I just bought a used set of charts and guide books for the Great Loop. Now I am in the planning stage. Last night I was studying with three different charts and two guide books spread on the floor around me trying to get oriented.
