Chestertown Tea Party

Anyone plan to go to the Chestertown, MD tea party this weekend? We understand it predates the Boston Tea Party and is quite a celebration. I'm sure it will be crowded on the water, but C-Dorys are small boats, right? -- might find a nook to tie into.

We'll be there! We had planned to be out of town, but the trip was cancelled.

On Saturday we'll be working - we open up our archaeology lab for the day. It's in the ground floor of the Custom House, a large brick house at the foot of High Street, which will be blocked off to traffic. If you're here, please stop by and say hello.

The director of our waterfront (Washington College) is out of town right now - if I can contact him before Saturday, I'll see if you can tie up at the College dock if you'd like. Do you have a cell phone number, just in case? I checked with Chestertown Marina (our home) but they're full this weekend.

The Tea Party is a lot of fun - it's a (very, very loose) reenactment of tea being thrown off a vessel in sympathy with the Boston event in 1774. Lots of food, beer and vendors, plus the throwing of tea off the replica schooner Sultana - and much splashing of "sailors" who somehow go overboard as well.

We plan on going down to the boat this weekend. If we arrive early enough we will cruise on up to Chestertown from Lankford Marina (home port). We usually just anchor out at the harbor and watch the action from the water side. When the cannons go off, everyone cheers. If the weather is rainy we might just drive in and check out John's 'digs'.
Everyone at the marina is excited and looking forward to being invaded by C-Dorys. Won't be long now!

We came over from Cutters this morning, after a great week there, fixing truck and trailer, visiting with C-Dory owners, and a nice cream of crab soup last night shared with TJ of C's The Day. Cutters is a great spot with nice folks, squeaky clean facilities, and close to services in town.
We're anchored tonight up near the head of Davis Creek, past Lankford Marina -- beautiful spot. Tomorrow, we head up the Chester to the Tea Party. We heard about a spot at Chestertown Marina from John and will probably be there tomorrow evening. Look forward to meeting Blue Crab, Annie B, and any others there for the weekend.
