Chips

I have the C-MAP for Furuno covering the west coast from SALINA CRUZ, MX TO CAPE MENDOCINO, CA. It is the 601.03 (2002) version, the current version is the .09. As noted by others, I would be willing to loan this to known members of both groups.

The restriction would be that the loaning of the chip would be for your own personel use only :D

Whew!! And our original posting only asked about chips -- no mention of beg, borrow, or steal -- maybe we just wanted to know how accurate they are, or whether they are useful, etc. -- and now we need family therapists, a home for a homeless dog, and lawyers -- you're right, Pat, a simple little one liner -- the flap of a butterfly wing -- can suddenly cause a typhoon.
 
As you can see, this thread generated a fair amount of discussion earlier in the week.

So far we've had five members respond with information on chips they would consider loaning to established members.

If you have chip(s) that you would like included in the "library," please contact me offline ( lorencasebeer@aol.com ) and I'll be happy to add your information to the list.

If you choose to be listed, please tell me (in your email) if I have your permission to include your email address on the spreadsheet (thus it would be available on this website), or would you prefer to have members contact you only through a PM (via the website).

Other listing data that I need:
(1) Area of coverage (ie. Puget Sound to Vancouver, BC)
(2) Manufacturer (ie. C-Map NT+)
(3) Chip Code (ie. NA-C604.05)
(4) Your email address (or) Your name and boat.

I have formatted a simple Excel spreadsheet with the above chip information. When we get a little farther along on the project I will forward that file (and occasional updates...) to our web hosts, for upload on the site. I see this as the first attempt to a developing, and changing, database.

If you have any ideas/suggestions please send me an email. The "plan" is to keep this as simple as possible. The library would simply list chips owned by members willing to loan them for a limited period or time. Details (length and timing of loan, postage/insurance, willingness to reimburse if chip is lost/damaged, etc.) will be entirely up to the individuals.

Sure, there is some "exposure" here, but I think it's very good idea, and hope it works out. Who knows - in a few weeks/months we might have a useful library that could save many of us from buying various one-time-use chips!

I'm glad you came back and cleared that up.
I was beginning to feel like the kid in class
who raised his hand without hearing the whole
question.( don't ask I've almost outgrown the
trauma) :lol:
I only have the one, its a Garmin Blue chart.
I thinks its great, so far they haven't missed
anything and I've missed everything :D
We go in and out of the bay area past the
Pcola Naval Air Station, and I imagine they put
extra work into our area because of the traffic.

Been in and out of that pass from Pensacola a few times and along the GICW there many times -- tricky water you cruise in, and good to know that the Blue Chart works well for you in those skinny waters.
We were almost to Pensacola, when we received an emergency message from a sailor friend on our ham radio. At a sharp bend in the waterway, they had hit the edge of the channel eastbounding toward Pensacola, and his wife below was thrown into the corner of a table. We made land arrangements for a trip to the emergency room and hung by the lift bridge so we could get it to lift (out of its usual time) for our friends. All worked out well, the hospital and shore folks were great, and our friend did not have any internal injuries -- after a few days with a sore stomach, they were on their way again.
Your water needs good chart reading and attention to the depth, so we're glad to hear that the Blue Chart works so well for you. Maybe we'll have a chance to visit as we come by this early spring.
 
After a brief period of interest the chip-loan idea just never really got off the ground.

Initially there were about a half-dozen folks who responded favorably - but lately there has been no discussion, and after the initial offer of a few chips - nothing.

With that in mind, it appear this is was an Idea whose time simply hasn't arrived. Oh well, we tried.

If you have suggestions or other ideas on the subject send me an email. Otherwise, we'll just quietly put this one to Rest.

One final comment. If a C-Brat/C-Dog is planning to do the Inside Passage, and has a RayMarine system using C-Map NT+ chips, contact me.
