Cleaning water spots?

I know I read a discussion in the last few days about cleaning water spots off the windows with carpet cleaner, but can not find for the life of me. Anyone remember where that discussion is? While your at it, do you know where I misplaced my keys?

I don't know about carpet cleaner, but has anyone tried vinegar? It works great for water spots on mirrors and shower doors in the house, but I have not tried it on the boat. It must certainly be less toxic to the environment than carpet cleaner.

My 2 cents...once the windows are cleaned, I use Rain X on them and they seem to stay clean a lot longer with a simple rinse of fresh water.

I followed a thread here a while back about removing water spots and tried everything. I thought surely vinegar would work but it did pretty much nothing for my spots. Finally on the recommendation of someone on the site I used Barkeepers Friend on the glass and rinsing it well from the boat. It took all my waterspots off and I followed up with a foam glass cleaner from Napa (name escapes me) and then with Rain X. I've found windex and like cleaners to be pretty much useless.

I found the discussion on another forum. It says to use Resolve Carpet Cleaner. Let stand a couple minutes and supposedly removes water spots. I'll give it a try and report.

I'll go get some as soon as I find my keys.

Since someone already mentioned Windex, I know that in the movie "My Big, Fat Greek Wedding" it was mentioned as a cure-all for everything, as far as cleaning windows is concerned it is awful. I've found Sprayway Glass Cleaner, available at Costco, works really well and doesn't leave that foggy residue that begins to appear on the window a week or two after using Windex.

Sure not sure about the windows, (that would be obvious if you saw mine) but the keys are in the freezer, right beside the ice cream.....

It sounds like the water spots I had after going to lake of the ozarks a couple years ago.

They are not water spots, just look like them.
It's actually a type of algae.

Get some muratic acid from the hardware store and spray it on with a bug sprayer. let stand 1 minute, wipe, and rinse off with the hose.

Do this in the shade, and use gloves and goggles.

After trying to get them off for 6 months i did this and they came right off.
