Coast Guard's new ships

The new cruiser is named after the longest serving Commandant of the CG. He was Commandant from the 1930's through WWII. Waesche doesn't quite roll of the tongue though

Been on these at the shipyard at Pascagoula MS where the Navy is building the LPD 17's that I'm involved with. They really are capable ships, much more so than anything they have now. Unfortunately, hulls 7&8 were not funded so they will only have 6 of them.

Not as sexy as the big ships but Bellingham just received a new 45' rescue boat-medium. It's a nice looking vessel and uses jets. It sounds like it is gurgling when it passes by at hull speed and the water sort of boils. When they put the petal to the metal it really takes off.
