Columbia River salmon

Mike,
I saw a report yesterday about 655k king salmon milling around at the mouth of the Columbia. That should provide you guys with some good hits and tight lines.
We only caught one king, a 42 lb., this season as they emergency closed it due to lack of escapement.
Next year.........I hope
Jack

So now it is next year ----> 2103 and fishing is on at the Columbia mouth. Wonder how it is doing this year. I have some friends down there that invited me to come fishing ---->>> Harvey going fishing, Hey Rick, you might have started something.

I have some questions.

1. I live in Washington, they live in Oregon and their boat is registered in Oregon. We will be fishing on the Columbia River, inside the bar. What fishing license do I need to get? Washington to match my residence and Drivers License, or Do I need to have an Oregon (and out of State) to be fishing with them on their boat (OR registry)?

2. Do Washington licensed fishermen have to fish on the Washington side of the river, and Oregon License on the Oregon side?

3. Or do you have to have a license for both states to cover you if you are across the state line from your home state?

Sorry if these are dumb questions but I have no clue.

(Tom) Quit laughing

Thanks for any help on this. Hope the fishing is good. I buy the license and they will get the fish.

If your a Washington resident, then you just need a Washington license. There is a Columbia River Salmon endorsement that you will have to buy for your license. I think it's about $9. There is an agreement on the Columbia with the states that allow you to fish the entire river with one state license. Now, if you decide to venture up a river in Oregon then you would need a non-resident Oregon fishing license. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help. I will try and get my license here before I go down to Astoria.

Tom, You want a real laugh, you should see me at the Walmart getting my license.

if its 2103 then I am further behind than I thought

that Bar crossing video is too much of a tease, I want to see more!

how late into the year is the fishery active down on the columbia? I've only ventured down for a chartered sturgeon trip back in 2006 or so, but I'd love to get my C-Dory down there if I get a chance this year. I just know that the earliest for me would be the third week of sept at this point.

Fishing is a funny thing.......While Jack says there are few king salmon here and he has only caught a few, I went coho fishing 2 weeks ago in Resurrection Bay (Seward) and my son and I caught 4 kings that were 10-20 pounds each, and only 1 silver.......And we were targeting silvers in their typical spots.....LOL....Other than the 6 foot swell and rain, it was a good day of fishing!

I have very found memories fishing for king salmon near Vernita Bridge in my jet boat when lived in Spokane. What a great fishery and while fishing in Alaska is generally really good, the Hanford area definitely has swagger too!

Are you taking C-Dancer, Peter?
No, I'm going on a guided trip. But I was just down that way yesterday and it would be a good trip for C-Dancer. I'm going to check out the fishery and think about taking it down next year.

You still fishing Westport?

I'm thinking of heading down the 24th if I can escape. I've never fished for salmon the the Columbia, just sturgeon and even that was about 7 years ago.
