So Susan and I are taking off for San Diego thursday to see James again. Hes almost done with his L.A.V. school and will be shipped to his first duty station in a few weeks. He will most likely get the east coast because hes from the west coast. Always works out that way. So what to do down there??? We will have some time to your selves and some time with james. I don't know the area at all and have no idea as to what to do. I like museums as does susan. James does have tickets to a concert on night but no plans other then that. Any ideas would be welcomed.

Patty here. One thing we did and enjoyed a lot was renting a motor boat across the street from the Coronado Hotel. We cruised all around the bay. Don't get too close to the aircraft carrier---they come out and yell at you. And of course we took the train down to Tijuana.

Tom, I'd head for Marine World. Haven't done it but I've heard that a bus or train to Mexico is a pretty safe way to go, if you are so inclined. Enjoy the time with James, and travel safe,
Harvey

Darn. I'm in the SF bay area (heading for Samuel P. Taylor SP today) otherwise I could meet you two on the base and tour the bay on the Jenny B. If you're on MCRD, go down to the boathouse and docks for me and see if the Jenny B has sprung a leak.

Don't pass up the USS Midway on Harbor Dr. Tours are available and the tour through the superstructure and command/control areas is awesome. Just down from the Midway is the Star of the Sea, a genuine old time sailing vessel and next to that is a russian 1972 era submarine also open for tours. Sea World, of course. San Diego zoo, and a number of bay tours.

Have fun.

Don

And don't forget the Maritime Museum along the waterfront close to the Star of India. Small, but impressive, built inside an older boat. I never miss going there to see what new stuff they've added. Have fun!

Go to Point Loma Seafood at Shelter Island and order the crab sandwich but specify with dungeness crab. The whole sportfishing landing is a great place to have lunch and walk around.

I would also recommend the tour of the Midway.

Weather is about 72-degrees right now in San Diego. At Fresno, it's 110+ degrees!

Thank you all for the ideas. We will begoing to the zoo and sea world and susuan and james want to see both and james gets in for free as a Marine. I will try to check out the harbor area and take a tour of the area. the maritine museum sound great to me and susan will put up with it if I dont take to long. The midway sounds good to but we will have to see how many old boat tours I can get away with. Sneaks were did you leave the keys  ??? We will be stay in ocean side near the base and driving back and forth to everything.

If Susan likes to window-shop, take her up to La Jolla and stroll through downtown. Lots of expensive stores there...

Sher and I went down a few years ago. We really enjoyed the city tour on a trolly bus on wheels. Found out some interesting stuff. Also would recommend an ice cream place on Coronado. can't remember the name, but it was GOOD ice cream
Jimbo

jimbo, is there bad ice cream???

warren, luck for me susuan hates to window shop for over price trinket, art gallerys are great as are adventures. Susan wanted kayaks for wedding presents and her mother thought she was kidding and got us really good chine, susan still complains about it 6 years later and the chine has never been out of the box. I know how to pick'em boys.

We leave in the morning and will be back monday. you all have fun this weekend.
