Converting brakes to electric/hydrolic

I'm hoping to get some info on converting our EZ Loader trailer, under our CD25, from straight electric brakes as found in other RV trailers (this setup is really poor if the wheels ever touch salt water), to electrically actuated hydraulic brakes.
In Canada hydraulic surge brakes are not legal for trailers with a GVW of over 6000 pounds so we have to have a system that allows for trailer brake applications to be made from within the cab of the tow vehicle.
For the extra money, is it worth it to go to a hydraulic disk system or stick with drums?
I know I'll need either new backing plates complete with shoes, or new disk assemblys complete with hubs, depending on which system I choose. I will also need an electrically operated hydraulic actuator and all the necessary lines etc.
If anyone has made this conversion, I'd love to hear about the process.

Cheers and a very Happy New Year to all C-Brats :beer

Hmmm!!

I just went thru a disc brake conversion the 20th of Dec. Did i get a good price? I don't know ,but the kit cost $1338.34, installation $595 + some other parts and kits for the upgrade. also had to replace the coupler and some misc. seals total cost about $2000 + tax.

The old drum brakes were rusty and ect. so seemedd a good time to make it better. They tell me that don't need a clean out system with disc just hose it off after salt water.

That was from Evergreen RV here in Seattle. :rainbow

Dreamer: Thanks for the photo link and the parts link. Glad to hear you are happy having done the conversion.

G. Gallagher: Did you go with stainless rotors or the coated steel ones? I see that stainless rotors can be very pricey. Are they worth it?

The Stainless rotors had issues with warping early on, although this issue may have been addressed. All of our trailers (King and EZ Loader) have the coated steel discs.

Since you need to replace almost everything, go disc. They will last much longer and require less maintenance.

I can't unerstand ever putting RV style brakes on a boat trailer- yes they are cheaper, but won't last long at all in use.
