I'll keep fingers crossed and hope the deal happens! Love PA, and my family there since before WA was a state. The old white-haired one was born just down the street from Jon and Cynthia. It's exciting that you two lovely folks will be neighbors!!
Hey Dusty,

Yup - Cynthia drove us by your birthplace, but it was at night. There was a dark spot below the roadway that she pointed to, we never got back to see it in the daylight. Next time fer sure...

Like you, PA's got a special place in our hearts. I've liked it since day one...you'll need to bring that rocket boat over next time we're out and we'll have a PArty!

Bill- You won't be too much out of sorts mixed up in PA with all the "locals". When we were up there for the 1995 Lido (sailboat) Nationals, many of the people (in Sequim at least) were equity retirees from San Diego or the Bay Area living in "spec" houses out in the surrounding countryside or on golf courses.
Yup...if I had to guess, there are probably more ex-Californians in Sequim than natives. While the weather there is fantastic, we like it further west - a little wetter, but lot's greener and less crowded.

Prices in Sequim are really reflecting the equity migration...they're high in PA as well, but as an example, we took a drive down the east side of Sequim Bay - found a lot, looked pretty small, perhaps 1/4 acre - $300K! It was high bank waterfront, but still...stuff up the hill wasn't cheap either.

Bill and Dana -

Good for you! We're real happy to hear about your new found home.

Is the 10-year plan out the window now? Can we expect to hear sometime soon the CA folks whining anew about the need for a water pipeline from the Columbia River down to CA when you quit managing the resources?

How about posting a few pictures somewhere on the site?
'Twas a grey and rainy day the only chance we had for photos, but I've posted a bunch of stuff on my personal site - link is here. The pics don't really do the place justice.

And just when we thought it couldn't get any better...the owner forgot one little tidbit when first showing us the property. There's a shared, private beach included...pics at the above site, complete with C-Lou models.

Heh...

The 10 year plan is more a reality now than ever - gotta pay for the place! However, unlike virtually every other lot we looked at, this one has no restrictive CCR's - we can park a trailer and enjoy it until the garage/studio goes in, and wait until retirement to build the house. Just about everywhere else we looked would not have allowed this.

Which means, once the garage goes up, Da Nag will probably get WA registration and reside up there most of the time along with the truck. It'll be nice to fly up instead of those nasty 14 hour drives, and we're just minutes from the PA airport...

It's time I had my say

It was a hell of a long week... (Only kidding!)

I trapsed the DaNag's all over the County in an attempt to find just the 'perfect' chunk of Washington land. So, they go and wait until the very last minute to find it! They found a super-dooper fabulous score on one of my favorite spots out in the Freshwater Bay area. It's just Lovely I tell you & it just doesn't get any better than this!!!

Jon & I look forward to them moving up sometime down the road. At least our front driveway may stop looking like a used car lot then. At one time during the week we had 8 vehicles out front of our house!

Glad you two made it home! :love CLou

She ain't kiddin'...'twas almost like those Joyce boys. Except, as Jon pointed out, all of the vehicles were right-side up.

:P

Bill and Dana, When I looked at your pictures I recognized Observation Point at Freshwater Bay. Wow! This is one of my favorite kayaking spots. The hillside above the bay is such a beautiful spot, and a launch ramp at the base of the hill! When I was a kid, we would spend 3 weeks each summer camped at Cresent Beach, about 5 miles due west of Freshwater Bay. I have always loved the coastline in that area. I am so happy for you guys. Congrates. Robbi

Bill and Dana,

Ya done good, fer sure. Great decision - and like that young good-lookin' lady I haven't yet met :sad - spent many summers at Agate and Crescent beaches (different time frame!!), and I fish that area whenever the governor lets me. Great halibut hole nearby... (Jon knows!!)

Next time you folks are up this way I'll either boat or drive over and happy to host you and the Jon/Cynthia team at my favorite restuarant in the area (Bushwhacker) for a fun evening.

My old house on west fourth is not very far from Freshwater -- unfortunately I couldn't afford to buy it back!!

Your picture sure brought back memories -- went to school at Joyce for a couple of years, before chain saws...

You bet! We've already been initiated to the Bushwhacker - been there a few times, both alone and with Jon and Cynthia.

RE restaraunts - that was one of the very few things I thought I might miss from CA; we eat out a LOT. I'm glad to say, PA has some great food. There's an excellent Thai restaraunt down by the ferry, and a Mexican joint (Sergios) that's pretty good as well. And near and dear to my heart - breakfast. There are several places that make some of the best morning food I've had.

There's also a German place that's been there a while, and a new Southwestern cuisine joint down near the ferry. Jon and Cynthia also have an Italian place downtown they like. Haven't been to those yet - next time...

Dusty, you went to school in Joyce, fished Agate and Crescent Beach and you know where the halibut hole is in that area, WOW!!! How neat, I feel privileged walking in some of your past footsteps in this area. I love to hear you talk about this area. :smile

All three of my kids went to Joyce School up until 7th grade, then we moved to town( P.A.). I coached the Joyce tee ball team for 5 years and man what a treat that was. I have never seen more dedicated parents than the Joyce parents. After work I would have 10 to 15 parents watching the entire pratice, something that really blew me away. In other towns I'm used to parents dropping off the kids and wouldn't see them again until pratice was over.

At the end of the year, I had a tug of war with my entire 16 person team thinking I could "smoke" them. What was I thinking. :disgust I had the rope tied around my waist and them little curtain climbers drug me around Salt Creek Campground for a half an hour. Wasn't funny at the time, I hurt for three weeks.

Joyce is a really neat place, I have a lot of respect for those folks. Bill and Dana your going to love it out there. :thup

Great story, Jon.

Off topic. I worked and lived at the old Vert farm on Salt Creek by the old saw mill and dam. Before chainsaws, as I said, and spent way too much time on the opposite end of a 10-ft. falling saw on a spring board. I was the runt of the litter and fell often - and found that hornets, skeeters, and nettles were harder to find on a purse-boat. So I fished! Off topic!!!!

Wonder if the old launch ramp in Bill's new Freshwater area has been improved. Not a 22 C-Dory ramp at most tides, as I remember. Great fishing because of the Elwah, but it can be a long and sloppy run from the E. Hook launch ramp. And that's good too, because not much fishing competition there -- more now I'm sure.

With two C Dories it would be great fishing now on the Canadian side in the Sooke, Becher, Pedder Bay area. I like the Race Rocks halibut too, but feel better with a buddy boat along. Worth a future planning session while sipping a Snoqual. brew...

Diggin' this one out of the archives...we've been busy!

There's a good reason we missed most every C-Brat gathering this year. Almost all of our free time, money and energy has been going into the new digs.

First, there was land clearing and brush burning. Then, barn/garage designs - we went through three, ended up with a 32x40 design, with 12'-6" doors, and an upstairs design that will allow for a 2BR/2BA apartment down the road (just storage initially.) Then some road work, utilities, and of course all of this mixed in with the usual bureacratic headaches.

One thing we've been very lucky with - finding good help. The grading guy we found is the best. He led us to the contractor, who's been an absolute joy to work with. Having never tackled a project like this before, and doing it from 850 miles away, he's making it easy.

In the last two months, we got the site graded, foundation built, and septic installed. Over the last couple weeks, the walls started going up. Finally, we're into the fun stuff...the building is taking shape quickly.

Fortunately, I have local photographers snapping up pics as the building progresses - thanks again, C-Lous! Here's a side view - the top of the structure is the future second floor, roof will be another 12-13' up.

Here's another that gives a little better size perspective...with the lovely Cynthia modeling the door height for us.

More pics are at my personal site - here's a link to the most recent construction album.

And finally, a few attachments from the plans. Speaking of which - can't remember if I mentioned it or not, but there are no copyrights on the plans or engineered drawings. We're in a seismic and high wind zone, so the plans can probably be used as is most anywhere. Be glad to share everything in AutoCAD format for anyone interested in something similar...might save somebody some bucks.

Probably won't be spending Christmas there, but Da Nag should be in it by Spring fer sure!

Bill and Dana,

That's a nice looking shed, even big enough to hold one of those new high rise Tom Cats with the second story trailer with stairs. WOW. Wish our project was even half that far along. Thanks for posting all the photos.
