Daydream's Great Loop Blog!

We are anchored in Steamboat Creek, halfway between Beaufort and Charleston. I have written up our cruise today getting here, but the next blog post will either be tomorrow or the day after, since tomorrow we cruise to Charleston, and the day after we tour Charleston, probably on another horse carriage tour! All is well, and the Verizon Jetpack has already been called into service in a few spots where T-Mobile has no service!

Port day at Charleston City Marina today! Just called the office and confirmed a one day extension. Thunder and lightening during the night, torrential downpour all morning, flood warning alert on iPhone, and now foggy out there to boot! Not a travel day for sure. Hoping for better weather tomorrow, but forecast looks like more of the same for Tuesday, then it gets better. One day at a time!

Today's blog post extols Baxter for his heroism in the face of not getting to land for almost two full days, talks about how valuable Active Captain was today and also about our budding friendship with Benton and Ann Blaylock in Newport, North Carolina, and ends with a rant about large yachts that don't know the usual passing protocol!

My buddy saw you cruising the ICW near Oak Island! At first he thought it was me

Cool! Don't know where Oak Island is, anywhere near the Cape Fear River? Because that is where we were until we left this morning!

Yes, it's just below Southport at the entrance to the Cape Fear.

He thought it was me until he saw how loaded up you were. I immediately knew it was you doing the loop.

Yes, it was undoubtedly us. And we are loaded to the gunwales!

The next blog post covering yesterday and the next couple of days will have to wait until Tuesday! We are enjoying the hospitality of Benton and Ann Blalock at their lovely home (and Benton's Man Cave in the garage) on the ICW. We will be doing the service on Daydream's outboard today, getting Baxter groomed and re-provisioning on Monday, and heading out Tuesday. Daydream is in the wet slip out in front (a concept unknown in the Pacific Northwest, where the boat is held in place by lines on six pilings). We may or may not actually travel on Tuesday depending on the weather!

I should have a blog post tomorrow, but update for today, the fluid extractor worked great, the oil filter has been changed, 7 quarts of new oil have been added, the lower unit lube has been drained and refilled, and the fuel - water separator has been changed. By me that is all fluids and filters. I now have a few other tools I didn't have before, including an oil filter tool that fits over the end of the oil filter and lower unit lube pump with the Honda adapter. I now am pretty sure I can do this myself, I will just have to find a marina with a sling that I can rent.

We have been having a wonderful time with Benton and Ann, and we are headed out to dinner in Swansboro right now. It is AIS 8:30 a.m. tomorrow morning to get the boat back in the water!

So you can teach an old (sea) dog new tricks. That is a good thing for me!
