I am looking at buying an older C-Dory Angler. The company web site says the boat was launched in 1987, yet I'm seeing 1985 versions for sale on the web. Can anyone give me a general feeling for what the major differences are between those pre-1987 versions and the current new models? Thanks.

According to the internet, the first C Dory was displayed at the Seattle Sportsman's show in 1979. The model change to the modern classic was in Jan 1987--again internet information.

Here is the differences in a nut shell.
Pre 1987, bottom flat with hard chine. Cabin shorter, cockpit longer. Access to forward berths wider because no bulkhead on port side. Transom not as wide because engines were 2 cycle 70 hp's( lighter). Pound in heavy seas, Centre window does not open.
Post 1986 had rounded chines, cockpit smaller, cabin's larger. Access to forward berth small opening. bulkhead on port side due to back of seat to larger table. Transoms wider to hold, first, twin four cycle 40 hp's, later single 75 to 90 hp's.(Heaver engines)Does not pound as much, center window opens.
I own a 1983 22' Angler Classic, and am not interested in any other boat at this time. In other words, "I love it."

I have to respectfully disagree with Fred--none of the C Dories have rounded chines. The monohulls are all hard chine boats. I am not sure if all had the slight reverse chine that some have--but that makes the chine angle even more acute--not rounded. A semi displacement boat will have rounded chines.

Our 1983, 22' Classic is much different from the newer boats, no comparison.
We too love our older boat and would not want to trade up in years.
By the way, we installed a retrofit "opening front window" (custom made) from Motion Windows (www.motionwindows.com) with good success.
Sent in our existing window for pattern/measurements, which Motion Windows promptly returned, with a new opening window in about six weeks.
