Drain Tube Flanging Tool

I bought the drain tube flanging tool and was wondering if anyone uses that rubber O-ring to seal the flanged end as the instructions suggest. I have never heard of using one before...when ever i have removed a transom drain tube to replace it i have never seen one. Thanks Tug
 
I bought a drain tube to put into the lowest point in the splashwell to drain that, and found that the lowest point there was blocked by the engine mount system. Still going to install it, but not there.

Where did you find this tool and o ring? And is it necessary?

I bought the transom drain plug flanging tool at Jamestown Distributors ,i never did use the ..O-ring...didn't need it... think it was around $ 42.00. I installed the two brass tubes today..( the drains in those little depressions ) using the flanging tool...was it very easy to use and you end up with a professional looking job.You can do the same job with a ball peen hammer but the flanging tool is alot easier to use.The drain tube in the splash well is another story, you cann't get at it unless you remove the motor....i will just apply some sealant around the circumference of the drain tube for now....Tug
 
The assumption with the "O" ring is that you have a solid glass transom, or one at least well undercut, filled with epoxy in the way of the drain tube, and then re-bored to fit the tube.

A good other solution is to use sealant or epoxy to set the tubing (again after under cutting the core of the transom, if it is cored with any material (foam or wood). Two truck lug nuts will also work as flaring tools. You do have to cut the brass tube the right length.

I happen to feel that perhaps a better solution is to use a brass threaded fitting--getting away from the rubber plug. That is what I use on the boats I keep in the water.
