Eagle Scout in the house...

While my son completed his Eagle award work this past summer, it took until fall for all the paperwork to filter through the system and until today for us to get the award ceremony together. Regardless, it finally happened - my son received his Eagle Scout award tonight. I'm now the proud owner of an "Eagle Scout Dad" pin.

Here's a photo of the award ceremony

His eagle scout project was to build an aviary for injured birds of prey at Lynnwood PAWS (Progressive Animal Welfare Society). The overal project is a structure about 12' wide by 20' long by 12' high. Here's a picture of the structure the day we finished it in June.

That is a great accomplishment, young man! Congratulations and thanks for your past and future contribution toward the betterment of society.

Congradulations are very much due on a serious accomplishment that makes the Earth a better place for all of us!

Too much praise is wasted on athletics, music, and pop culture.

Academics, science, and technology are tools that will allow us to survive in a world burdened with human impact.

Here's acknowledging a fine young mind and individual who will be a very positive force in our future world!

Joe.

How proud you must be!! That is a wonderful accomplishment that will affect his whole life. I know from personal experience how demanding it is for the parents to help produce and outstanding scout and young man.

Please pass on Patti's and my congratulations

Congratulations! It is so refreshing to see and hear news of all the good things the youth of today are doing. Too often we only hear the negative side. What a great sense of accomplishment and hours of hard work he has obviously invested in earning Eagle Scout! Well Done! :thup

Fantastic Roger!!! Yall give your fine young man a YYYEEEHHHAAAA for me.

Great Project too....but, of course having a great love for Auburn University, and our love for Eagles....as seen during the Olympics, and any home game in Auburn AL..... a place for the birds is awesome too..

Congratulations, Roger ( and Mom ) on the Eagle offspring! It's good to cram all the learning possible into your kid's heads so they can better advise you the rest of your life!

Actually, I know there was alot of work and dedication from both parents and the new "Eagle" behind such an accomplishment. You all just did your bit to make this a better world!

John

I'm sure all three of you are deservedly proud, Roger. He'll be through college like a hot knife through butter and I wouldn't be surprised if a few scholarships didn't fall from a tree or three.

Good fortune

Congratulations. I know that's quite an accomplishment that requires a lot of effort on the part of your son, as well as you and your wife.

Congratulations Roger....I am also a Eagle Scout.... it's a big deal, you and he should be very proud.... if you will send me a pm with your mailing address I have some scout things I would like to send him. He will learn that once an Eagle always an Eagle....we are a brotherhood that stands together.

Becoming an Eagle is the first step in a lifelong process.

Congratulations, as many have said, it's good to hear some good news about todays youth. You folks must be doing something correct.

Although I was never in the scouts, I am about to achieve the "Old Buzzard" rank

Congratulations !! And what a good cause to do a project for. As you might guess from out boat name "kingfisher" we are bird lovers and I have a special interest in raptors.

(was nice meeting you last weekend)

Please give your son our congratulations also. Last year there were three C Dory owners at our home, and in the conversation it came out that we were all Eagle Scouts. I know that this is an accomplishment which will help him all of his life. Sometimes we hear that Scouting is deminishing in its acceptance. I can think of no other program which can prepare a young man or woman better for life. I also know that it takes dedicated partents to keep the young man on track--and you know that you have done your jobs well!

And some of us were thrown out of the scouts due to cutting all the goats loose on a jamberee.... and they ended up eating tents and kicking dents in the hood of the Scout Mater's new shinny white international pickup truck...

hummm wonder who that was

Thanks for all the kind comments. It's nice to be able to share something that's positive. Like any other 18 year old, not everything associated with raising this boy has been a bed of roses. Overall though, he's a good person (I originally wrote "kid" but he's a young man now). While he may not believe it, I am very proud of him.

For those of you who might be interested, I'm attaching a scanned pdf of the back cover of the quarterly PAWS publication. A brief description of his project and another picture of him and the project was plastered all over the back cover. Also, for those who don't have teenagers at present, YES, the fashion from the late 60's made a comeback as evidenced by the very large bell bottoms he has on.
