Hello
Cindy and I are planning to attend the gathering also I have been wondering if anyone is leaving from Everett. If so do you leave the truck and trailer there. Or do you have someone bring it home for you and return on pickup day.
I thinking that security at the launch isnt all that secure.

Are you talking about the Friday Harbor gathering? Regardless, there are quite a few Everett users here, I'm sure someone will chime in.

If you are "talking" launching for the San Juans, I personally prefer launching in Bellingham. They only charge a launch fee and NO parking fee, where as Everett charges a parking fee as well. As for security at the Everett Launch Ramp, I've never had any security problems there. Everett Port Security and Everett Police Department frequently cruise through there.
Other launch sites that other C-Brats use for the San Juans are Coronet Bay, Twin Bridges, Washington Park and Skyline. I've used all of those, but for a number of reasons I prefer Bellingham. Others certainly have their favorites.
 
Ditto to what Dave wrote. We have never had a security issue @ Everett. As a practice, we DO NOT leave anything of value in the truck and I open the center console, glove box etc to "show" that to anyone "curious" enough to look into the truck cab. I don't want to return to a broken window. We've left the truck/trailer there for up to a week or so.

We also use Bellingham for the San Juans; eaiser & cheaper to tow than cruise the boat all the way north, but Everett is our primary launch site due to proximity to home & large available cruising area.

Mark, I don't know if you have a cap for your truck bed but if you do, what would be your practice (or your recommendation) to make it not attractive to thieves?

Warren, I'm not Mark, but a well trained German Shepard or an untrained Pit Bull inside should suffice. :mrgreen:
 
Hi, I will second Everett launch if you are boating in this area or just want to see the sites and pass thru deception pass on the way to the San Juan's. I launch there a lot and have had no problems so far leaving the truck. I have seen others have problems and that's the same for every where. One c-brat had their trailer stolen in Bellingham but people still like it. I personal dis like bellingham and just don't see the logic of using it for Friday harbor. You are going to trailer further to boat further?? I also dont like the roads or the traffic thru bellingham from the highway to the water. If you are going to spend time north of ocras then it works but for Friday harbor I prefer twin bridges or Washington park. You have to watch low tides at both in a 25 and minus tides in a 22 but other then that I like them. Never any trouble at either one leaving the rig. both are closer then bellingham to Seattle and Friday harbor. I just don't see a down side other then the tide issue once in a while.
 
We live on Whidbey Island and use Deception State Park ramps at Cornet Bay for 95% of our launches. We are 1 1/2 hours, ramp to Friday Harbor at 14kts. I have successfully launched at zero tides. If you are new to the area pay attention to Deception Pass and cross not too far from slack. There are normally quite a few brats launching from or passing by Cornet Bay on the way to Friday Harbor. I have never launched at Washington Park, exposure, tidal issues, car prowls.

Warren, I don't have anything covering my bed. Like anything else, it's a trade off; I can't store anything back there but I can dump bark etc easily.

By cap I assume you mean a canopy. Those are problematic since IMO the "locks" are usually crap and the windows are easily opened. My buddy who is a contractor has covered all the windows, from the inside, w/ vinyl transfer. This does not allow anyone to see in as the vinyl is solid, opaque black. Again, it's not perfect and I can't tell you how many tool thefts from trucks I've done in >16 yrs. I would say use the best lock possible, cover the glass/windows and don't leave anything you don't want to lose back there.

I'm considering getting a good bed tool box, so I can store a floor jack, some basic tools etc back there. If I do, I will bolt it down to the bed from the inside and buy a solid one w/ good locks.

Most thieves are like hyenas/jackals; they will look for the easy "kill" vs having to work for it. Make is as hard as possible w/ the least return as possible. Then, hopefully, they go break into the truck next to yours.

Both would work, but if you left him there for longer than a day...boy...I hope you don't have carpeting back there. :wink:
 
Thanks, Mark. I think if I have to park my truck for any length of time I will try not to have anything of value in the truck bed and leave the cap/canopy unlocked so as to hopefully not have any break-in breakage. The problem for me with a toolbox is that my bed is only 6.5' which makes carrying 8' plywood, etc. tough enough as it is (securing the load so it does not slide out, etc.)

If leaving the rig overnight, I try to park in an area close to the money machine, sometimes I have been able to park right next to them, because there is a camera looking right at that machine. Not that all criminals will care, but it weeds out a few of the scumbags. I also make sure there are locks on the trailer hitch.
 
If staying more than one night, is there a limit on the number of nights? Can you pay upfront in the machine? When I last used it a couple years ago, you needed $5 cash. Does the machine now take credit cards?
 
It is $8 now which includes launch & parking for one day. No limit on days, however, from May-Sept they charge $3/day parking but only on Fri, Sat & Sundays. Clear as mud. :lol:

The machines do take credit/debit now too and of course, cash, but DO NOT give change.
