Harbor View Café

We all have our favorite places to eat. Here is mine and it’s on the top of my list. I found this place when I made my cross country trip from Jacksonville, Fl to San Diego, Ca on a 49cc motor scooter. At that time, it was located on Hwy 90 in Pass Christian, Ms. A gal named Katrina changed that. After the storm, all they found was one spoon and part of a plate. They have now relocated to higher ground in Long Beach, Ms. The new location is only about 6 miles from the old one. Now, about the food. They have a pretty extensive menu but I can never get past the Shrimp PoBoy. This thing is an unbelievable value. The price is now $7.75 but it will easily feed two people. I always order just one and Mary Jo and I split it. They cut it for us and serve on two plates. Their previous landlord also owns a fleet of shrimp boats and they get fresh shrimp everyday at a bit of a break from market price. The other thing that makes their fried shrimp and oysters so good is that they change their cooking oil every shift. I never go West on I-10 without stopping at the Harbor View. The easiest way to find it is as a GPS waypoint
30 21.450N 89 09..48W or stop and ask anyone in Pass Christian, Long Beach or Gulfport, Ms everyone knows where it is located. If your ever on the Mississippi coast you've gotta eat at this place.

Gee Bill and El,

I thought FRED's RIB HOUSE in Brockport New York was one of your favorite eating places?

It was mine. I wonder why?

Now, let's not try to pin Bill down when "Tofu R Us" is his new regular haunt. ;)

My favorite eateries change according to the mood or what my appetite is craving. We had lunch at Famous Dave's the other day, and it was some mighty fine BBQ. There are times when only a burger will do and they always seem to taste better when grilled at beach bar & grill. And the first time I ate at a Texas Road House and got to throw peanut shells on the floor... who knew that would make food taste better? There is an Italian place called Oregano's Pizza Bistro with 8 locations in Arizona... I'm pretty sure they put heroin in their pizza sauce, 'cuz you just have to keep coming back... and their "Pizza Cookie", a huge warm gooey chocolate chip cookie with ice cream on it (serves 4 as long as the other 3 don't eat too much)... great, I'm drooling now.

Best wishes,
Jim

Rainbow Drive-In; Kapahulu, just outside of Waikiki. I grew up 1/4 mile up the hill from it and my mom & dad still live in the same house. It has to be experienced to be understood. After a long morning of surfing (dawn patrol) there's NOTHING better than a carb load at "Rainbows". I recommend the "Loco Moco" or a "boneless chicken plate w/ extra gravy". Probably a 1,000 calories of goodness.

Maybe you Florida guys can tell me.... There was a great shrimp house in Mayport FL. They catch the shrimp themselves, and serve them up informal family style. Quite a feast. Can't remember the name. Singleton's? Does this still exist?

Plate Lunch!
Hey Jim what about Marc's Seafood emporium, and bait recyclers ?

The company was great. The food was tasty and plentiful... but I had to grill my own, including that bait stuff. 8)

Apalachicola has quite a few good eating establishments, btw.

Best wishes,
Jim
