Fenders for the Ranger 21

I think I had looked over theirs and forgot now why I passed on them
I am thinking they must have been 5.5x20. The fenders that came with
the boat new were way oversize and did not fit at all. The deal in town
was from Walmart but they were too big as well, close however.
I was out there today making up a tool kit and I checked to make sure
the "Model T" wrench fit on the packing nut and it did but had a more
modern one that fit better. The genuine Ford wrench has a end for
mounting tires as well. I made sure my wrenches fit and left it alone
as did not want anything not broken to be broken. Cant help you out
on wires and such for the boat but do have info on the motor itself
from the service manual. I did notice that the charger was just hooked
on one battery. Getting close now for my trip down the Columbia
and will shove off second week in April. Even got a person to take my
towing vehicle downstream to Rosburg and the deep creek boat launch.
A bit upstream from Astoria bridge. Should be a bit over 425 river miles.
Good way to test things out..

lockers at all. I did get one in and had a devil of a time getting it out.
I may be able to gain a quarter of a inch with a router. The lockers
are open on the bottom so storing much else there is out. If they were
two inches deeper things would work out or a fender at a angle would
work but not enough room for that either.
GI Joes looks like a look see in the morning. I could get away using
old car tires as it is a tug and most tugs have old car tires.. Thanks

Bob H..... You know what would really look great? Those fenders made of tied sisal rope.... big ropes tied in kind of "baggy" shapes to hang off the side and on the bow.
I think I have seen those somewhere for sale or how to make them.

They would look real good I would admit. It would be nice that I would
not have to rig and un rig every time I get underway. The rash from
lock walls would not show either. I do have a neighbor who has cattle
and generates bale twine that is a real bright green color but is very
strong and each piece is like six feet long and has a knot and that would
be real strong and hold up against uv rays. Take me forever to make
something like that but would be usable.
These lockers are goofy sized for sure. A trip to GI Joes in planned in
a few hours and we will see what they have going.

flier for West Marine that has 5x16 on sale so will check them out
as well.
What the world needs is fenders made out of fender material like
Polyfoam makes only with the shape of a tire just for tugs. I like
the tire theme but the ugly marks they would leave would not work
out unless you had a black boat. Tire shaped fenders made with
a quality backside that could be rigged all the time. What a plan!
Hemp ones look nice too but bet those English pounds would mount
up quickly..

I was just at Boaters World Everett yesterday and they had a six pack of fenders, which looked like about 4.5 inches in diameter, and should fit in the locker very easily without any rubbing. Length appeared to be around 20 inches. Sorry but the size was not printed on the label, so couldn't get the exact measurements. The six pack was 39.99 on special.

I like the idea of the "hemp" or sissal fenders in that they add style to the boat and could even be left in place, rather than being stored, leaving the locker for more important uses like holding fish, beer, wine, or ? (not guns or dope, and no smoking the hemp, either!)
The round fenders Like Da Nag likes would look good with the boat, too, but pose the same storage problem.
I saw a Viking tug at Ballena Bay near San Francisco a few years back that had a big sissal nose bumper and tires hanging off of the sides it that looked both very authentic and classy at the same time!
I even thought of getting some small "solidish" tires, like aircraft tires, and having a canvas maker construct Sunbrella or heavy canvas covers for them to dress them up and color coordinate them with the boat, etc. Could add sewn on or silkscreened lettering or designs to customize them. Durability would be a problem, perhaps, depending on your mooring/docking practices. The tires could have tubes in them to adjust the stiffness of the cushioning effect, just like the regular ones.

I guess my last message did not come thru. I noted that I took
out the boat today for a few hours and all went well and was a nice
day up here in the Cascade mountains. I commented on the hemp
fenders and yes I do like them but am pretty cheap sometimes.
I will wait and see what shows up at the swap meet on the 7th.
Also noted that my ham radio aprs signal may be followed and the

the red car over to a boat and will have to hunt for the book on

I have wanted to explore Alder Lake every since I got my boat a couple of years ago. What are your impressions of the lake and how is it for finding seclusion away from other people?

Dave it may have been a while since you were there but Tacoma City
Light has done a nice job on the ramp and is two lanes with a dock
in between. Has a rest area and shower and lot of room for boat
parking but on nice weekends in the summer forget it and no parking
seems to be the order of the day. Yesterday there were four boats
on the lake and two were city guys moving logs and debris. You can
go around the back side of the island and toward the "little Nisqually"
and have no problems hiding. Water was full of logs yesterday but the
lake was high and after the storms of this winter that is expected. The
city gathers this stuff up and burns it. Nice firewood most of it.
I should have shut the aprs off while in the lake instead of when I
turned off the batteries and that would have been more impressive.
APRS tires to send a location every three minutes but you need some
luck with that. Bring her up unless you think the boat would be too
