First Purchase

This is my first posting, hope I got it right. I hope to become a fully fledged C-Brat soon by purchasing a 22-Cruiser, one has caught my eye. Believe it or not though, I have still not seen one in the flesh. If purchased, I intend to keep it in the water for 9 months of the year, just coming out for a Winter clean up and anti-foul paint job. Is there anything I need to know about leaving it in the water for 9 months at a time? What about zincs, I would imagine just in the stern area for trim tabs? Any scuppers or am I relying purely on auto bilge pump? Do owners invest in 2nd bilge pump back-up? Hope my questions are not to naive. We all started at the beginning sometime. Thank you to any of you who have time to reply.
Martin.

Congrats on the purchase. There are zincs for the motors different motors different zincs. The 22 has no scuppers. Depending on the years it may have only 1 bilge pump in the stern between the fuel tanks. other years had one just inside the cabin door and yes many owners added a 2nd pump.

Welcome to c-brat land! Where will you be keeping your boat in the water? C-dory boats are so straightforward with few complex systems that it is pretty easy to keep thm in the water. Also easy to keep them out of the water with a trailer.

Hi Martin, and welcome aboard. Good questions - regarding keeping the boat in the water, I would recommend an epoxy barrier coat and then good bottom paint ("good" would be whatever works in your area; ask around the local marinas). Zincs will be necessary for the metal parts that are in the water. Best thing for the bottom is to use the boat... less nasty stuff accumulates on a bottom that gets frequent usage.

If the boat you are looking at does not have a second bilge pump, I'd suggest you install one. Also, you might consider a cockpit cover (either full camperback or a slant back to keep rain out) - less work for those bilge pumps to have to deal with.

Good luck with the search. These are great, versatile boats - it will be worth the effort to find one that works for you. Keep your questions coming - this forum was most helpful when I was in the search mode.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

As always excellent suggestions already. I fully agree with the epoxy barrier coat, with a good antifouling paint which works well in your area. You may still have to have the bottom (or do it your self) scrubbed a couple of times during the "Season". Many places it is desirable to clean the bottom every couple of weeks or at least once a month.

If I kept my boat in the water, I would have the back enclosed with the camper back or slant back. Also put in the second bilge pump, with an alarm and even a bilge pump cycle counter. (also a back up battery).

Zincs depend on the type of water--Zinc in Salt, either magnesium or aluminum in fresh water--on both trim tabs and engine bracket. It is desirable that the lower part of the outboard comes out of the water, when tilted all of the way up.

I hope that you do get your C-Dory. Keeping it in the water certainly is different in different places. Where do you plan to keep it? Is it new (no bottom paint ever,) or does it already have bottom paint?

In the Northwest is the easiest, the Southeast is the most difficult and a trailer might pay off, SoCal is the classiest, etc. So give us the geographical location and boat condition and you'll get tons of advice pertinent to the local. All guaranteed to make you happy.

I too may have the opportunity to buy a 2007 22'. I will be looking at the boat later this week. From the pictures, it appears to be pretty basic, with only electronics (Radar, GPS, Chartplotter, radio) added. Any suggestions on what I should be looking for/at? What would be a fair price range for this year C-dory? I plan on trailering the boat, and it does come with a tandem axle trailer. I live in the midwest and plan on using it on rivers, lakes and the Great Lakes. This boat will be to replace a Searay 268 Sundancer. Any information anyone would like to share with me about running the C-dory on Lake Michigan or Superior would be appreciated. Boat has twin Merc 40's. Thanks.

The 2007 model had a few changes. 1 bilge pump, a raised cockpit floor molded liner in the cockpit. An all glass entry door. In the late 2007 models the interior changed from the Decraguard to fiberglass. I have an early 2007 model so Decraguard, which I actually prefer for mods. As for a price, look at the listing in the lower right hand corner and see what they are selling for with the equipment installed.

My boat is a 2006 and has the glass door and raised cockpit floor, so I think 2006 was the transition year. BTW, which company was making the C-Dory in 2006?
