Somewhere down the line someone suggested the Bowling ally in Anacortes for good F&C. So after getting off the boat last week and needing a diversion I got on the bike and did a road trip up to "Sling City", found the bowling ally and tried their version. They have been voted the top F&C in Anacortes for the last 8 years

I don't know who's doing the voting, certainly not me. I think the bowling alley F&C are horrible. Too bad you didn't cycle just a little further and go to the Brown Lantern in old Anacortes (near 5th Street). Excellent F&C IMHO. The Rockfish Grill F&C are iffy too.

The best fish and chips I ever ate were at a little F&C cart in Port Townsend. That was about 25 years ago.

Recently, my best F&C's was at a chip truck located on the main street of Ucluelet. The fish was very fresh, batter excellent and the chips were fresh cut.

I also had excellent F&C's on the ferry dock at Quathiaski Cove on Quadra Island. Really fresh fish and excellent fries.

In Tofino, Big Daddy's Fish Fry is always a must stop.

The worst in recent memory was at the Grizzly Paw in Canmore, Alberta. The Haddock was Tilapia, I'm sure and the fries were frozen. The micro brew beer on the other had was excellent. Lesson learned, eat fish on the coast not in the mountains.

About 30 years ago we ate F&C's on the beach in Stonehaven the night before we started on our cross Scotland hike. We bought our F&C's at the famous chippy that invented the Deep Fried Mars Bar. Take a Mars Bar, dip in the same batter as the fish, drop it in the same oil as the fish. Enjoy if you're Scottish. I'm not. Scotland, great place to eat if you like grease, don't like veggies and plan to die young.

On my Recent trip to Anacortes and the San Juan islands I had a lot of Fish and Chips. My best experience was "Secret Cove" in Anacortes. A low key hidden place with a great view. Good prices, good drinks, good service. All of my F&C in the area was great, but this place just seemed to have the top. Overall the F&C standard was better than what I get here in the bay area, California.

Albacore fish and chips in Astoria. Don't know the name of the place but it's served out of a boat converted to a restaurant up on the hill above the maritime museum. It always has a long line and there's a good reason for that.

Roger, Yes, they are pretty good there too. It is called "BowPickers" I believe. Definitely the best in the Astoria area and maybe all of Oregon.

The locals hereabouts like the Bowpicker, also, both for its quality fish, and the amiable and talented owners. However, Enola's Ship Out, outa town a few miles at Miles Crossing measures up pretty well (sans the long wait in line). As does the F and C at the Bridgewater Bistro on the waterfront, near the West End Mooring Basin.

If you work at it, you can find subpar fish in town, but most places know they are up against stiff competition.
