Flares ? What do you use ?

Lots of demo clips on YouTube. Some of them even show responsible use of flare guns, many do not though. Hard to believe what idiots will do to themselves and each other...

Colobear, I agree with you that trying to wave a flag, especially in fog is useless. So is any visual signal, including lights and flares. However, the Coast Guard says that I have to have something. Now I have something to show the Coasties and I can keep my flares for longer than 3 years, and still use them.

The one thing I depend on is radio. The only thyme I asked for help was in a lightning storm off the coast of Georgia, and the VHF worked perfectly. By the way that was ~30 miles offshore. Yes, I know silly SoCal guy to even be out. What can I say?

Hang on to your old (Road Type) Safety Flares. They are dandy for starting salt soaked drift wood fires. As for the large bore flare guns... :wink They sell 12 GA. Adapters for the 20mm and I made one for my 25mm. As for the old "Star" shells....Save 'em for back-up. I've had 10 year old ones work just fine. I used to shot them in a pump 12 GA., but the new ones will only fit a single shot...More Kaulifornian's I'm sure...
