FLUSH HONDA 50 MOTOR?

Ok gang I'm at a stand still on this one. On Sea Wolf I have twin Honda 50's. New in 2008. This year was the first time I put the boat in a slip at Brookings Oregon do to the fact the ramp at 0500 in the morning was a night mare getting launched. I've never seen so many boats. After fishing for the first day I put the boat in the slip and started my long clean up list that I do religiously after every fishing trip.

I don't believe there has been a time I haven't flushed those motors after using them. At least until now. :sad I lifted the motors out of the water and like a light coming on in my head the big PROBLEM. How the heck am I going to flush those motors? :crook I can't get to the lower flush plug to remove it and add the Honda attachment. I can't stick my flush bag under the motor and flush?

Is there a way to add a flush out somewhere on the top of the motor or on the side? I've seen flush outs on the bigger Hondas near the top where one can get to them. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

We pay a lot of money for our fancy marine outboards because they are designed for the marine environment. Sure it is a good idea to flush your motor whenever it is removed from the salt. However there are lots of people who leave them in the water all season and don't flush them. They are built for that.

Hi Digger

I'm not able to reach it. I'm disappointed in Honda they didn't think of an easier way to get to a flush port when sitting in a slip.

I'm not sure I go along with HALLIBUT TACO. I've seen the results of motors that don't get flushed. We may indeed flush to often. Who really knows? This year I had the water pumps changed on both motors. The mechanic said everything looked brand new inside them. I like that kind of news. Especially when I'm 50 miles out on the big pond. I think I'll continue flushing when I CAN REACH THE DARN THING. :thdown

I was hoping someone had come up with on of those BETTER IDEA THINGS. Thanks guys for the input.
 
I had Honda 50's on my last boat and I kept it in a slip. I was able to reach them with the ear muffs using a little bit of gymnastics. It wasn't pretty, or graceful, but I could do it. So a few suggestions:

1) YOU may not be able to do it, but someone can. Maybe you don't flush every time, but the next time you have an especially nimble guest aboard (or a twelve year old kid), have him or her help you out with the flushing. Or pay some deck hand to help you on occasion.

2) Again, maybe you don't do this every time, but you can row your dinghy out around to the back of the boat and attach the hose from the water side.

Last year I added a fish box (bleeding fish) to the back of my boat. I love it. This addition of course made it near impossible to climb back and hook some ear muffs on. I like the idea of getting the first mate to do this work. Problem is he is 73 years old and kind of grouchy. :crook

Soooooooo I have decided to make this one of my winter time projects. Some how I'm going to attach those ear muffs to a pole and be able to reach over and add them to a motor. I'll try and shoot some pics when the big day comes and update everyone. I think it can be done. Again my thanks for all the ideas on this issue.

Now that's what I'm talkin about. How does one slap his forehead and roll his eyes back when writing a post? Such an easy solution it never occurred to me. They would be right there at the dock. A very big :thup to you Potter Water. :D :D :D
