Footrest?

I can't seem to find the threads discussing the installation of a footrest. I know others have created a footrest level with the existing "lip". I'm 6' but a level platform from the lip would be perfect and it would create another small storage cubby.

Thanks!

Hi Matt,

Is this what you had in mind?

It works well for us but I'm only 5'9". The helm seat is also raised as you can see with enough room for a silverware drawer.

The shelf is Melamine with Teak trim.

Matt, We had Discovery built with a storage compartment as the footrest. Of course that was in the eariy days of the TC255 production. Our boat was the 5th one built, and has many custom cabinets. The footrest has about the same storage capacity as the dinette footrest.

We choose not to put in a foot rest, since I occasionally want to stand, using the seat as a "Leaning post". Instead, we put a "corral" on the outside, where we keep spotlight, ditch bag, lines for the "D" ring by the window for mooring, etc.

I would like to have an adjustable foot rest--The C Dory 25 does have a foot rest--and the storage area is shallow, but handy.

I would probably experiment with a piece of plywood, with short "legs" on it to see what height works best for you--then get the Decaboard and teak trim for the final product, with a hinged top, and extra storage.

Matt, The top opens up, about 2/3 of the surface. It is hinged on the back (the seat side). You can also see that I added a 4" lift to the helm seat. Created a great place for the log book and all the manuals etc. The door faces forward. See the Discovery album, TC255 sub album for other pictures of the custom cabinetry.
