Greg, That looks like a fun ride. I looked it up. Pretty capable with some cool features. I see you have the Garmin mounted up. I need to take a lesson one of these days.

Jim, Good of you to point out the helmet differences. When I bought my HJC, the choices were pretty limited, and the options were Full face, Modular or a half, with a few different sizes, so I got the best of the bunch, and it worked for a while.

Cycle Gear was the most receptive and helpful when I called for some helmet info. Better customer service got my $$$.

Perfect blue sky sunny day so I took the bike out for a ride. It's been parked with the BatteryMinder plugged in and hadn't been run for a couple of months. Took a couple of cranks, *(the temp was 30 degrees), but the road was dry so I gave it a go for a short ride, just to roll the bearings, tires, and stir up the oil.

AND I was just missing the riding. Didn't take long to get cool though.

Parked and back to plugged in again for a while. Last year I rode to Portland (225 miles) on New Years eve day and then back home on New Years Day. Cold but with dry roads. That will be a ride I remember for a while.

Recently heard about "mass" motorcycle ride, actually a couple of them and wondering if anyone here has any experience with either the Rolling Thunder ride in WashDC or the "Run For The Wall" ride, cross country, Ontario, CA to WashDC.

Greg, I have some friends who do the IBA rides every year. I read through some of the link you posted. Might be interesting. Where is the ride start and end, and is it road ride or dirt ride?

The Run For The Wall and Rolling Thunder are pretty daunting rides, but very Patriotic, That is where my interest in them is.

Run For The Wall, averages 300 miles a day, formation riding, 10 days in a row, from So Cal to WashDC.

It starts in prosser, wa and it will be an all road ride. I dont know the specific route just yet.

We all know "the wave" right? So just the other day, I was riding through town (Sequim, and for those of you not acquainted, we are a pretty slow moving, retirement community), and ahead of me about 4 car lengths is biker, long hair and big beard coming out from under a half helmet, a leather braid from the clutch side bar hanging nearly to the ground, and cut pipes with that big Harley rumble. At the light, 2 cars turned right, so I was now directly behind the Harley. The colors were obvious, the vest was well patched, this was a big bad tough guy.

Coming toward us, the only traffic is a Vespa ridden by a sweet looking, long white hair flowing in the 20 mph breeze, pink vest flying and half helmet wearing little granny. Yup, she gives him the "Wave". That surprised me, and I was a hundred feet back so it was definitely for him, and then, his left hand dropped, and a peace sign wave went back.

When she passed me, she had the biggest grin I have ever seen.

We waved too.

One should always enjoy life.

Mom and dad were working on the road and living in a 5th wheel for a few years. one night they are staying in a KOA type place when a 100 bikers come rolling in. Dad has worked and managed construction crews and tower crews his whole life so rough looking people are nothing new but He said this was one really hard core looking bunch. Color and batches on all of them. Scar's and tats everywhere. They set up camp and the drinks come out and then a radio and then they brake out into song.... Well Hymns mostly.. and the drinks where all soda. They were a club based on drug and alcohol addiction recover thru the church. Bikers for Jesus.. .. meanest looking bunch of nice guys dad has ever seen. They talked to every camper in the place to make sure they were not to load or annoying.
 
Tom, That was a great story.

I don't know if you are old enough to remember this but there used to be an advertising campaign song, " You meet the nicest people on a Honda."

I think it was for the Honda 90, and not the one that hangs on the back of tons of C-Dorys :wink: :roll: 8)

It's always the Russians who do these kind of dangerous things, Jesus... Anyway, the rider only needs to make one mistake and he could be gone in the blink of an eye. Scary thought...
