Hello everyone,

The tool that you use to open the water and gas caps on a 1992 22' cruiser; that unscrews the caps off.
What is its name?
I cant seem to find one anywhere and would like to have a spare or two with me.

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff-

There's called a "deck plate key"! Hard to find w/o the correct name!

Here's a few to choose from West Marine. LINK Most any boat jewelry store will have them. Mine are from Perko and look like a figure "8" with a prong sticking out the sides of the "O"s. Like them a lot. Will find image and post here:

Here's a real search for various Deck Plate Keys with plenty of options.

I have mine on keychain floats for protection, since it's easy to drop them into Davey Jones' Locker.

I discovered that the back edge of my knife blade, when closed, opens either water or gas. Since I carry it anyway, the knife is my best tool to open these caps.

I've got the deck plate key hanging from the fire extinguisher just inside the door. However, most of the time I just use a quarter or fat end of the key to my pickup. If you don't over tighten, anything that fits in the slot will do.

There are several types of the deck keys--some are plastic, some like above. The one I like the best is one which has several different spaced tips for 1.5 and 1.25 inch deck plates, plus a flat and curved solid plate. There is a tapered slot for shackles and 3 bolt patterns. I like to keep one of these right by the cabin door.
