Fuel lines

I wonder if there is something to the "primer bulb gets weaker as it gets older" idea. Reason I say that is I replaced my entire fuel system: New tanks, new hoses, new fuel filter/housing, new bulbs... everything. Even rebuilt carbs that were then drained. So it was all bone dry. I wondered if I was going to have to do anything special to prime the system or get things going. Decided to just try pumping the bulb(s) first. I did make sure to hold the bulbs with the arrow (motor side) pointing skyward.

Within about three pumps the Racor fuel filter bowl was filling up (and it is above and a few feet of hose away from the tanks), and both engines started right up as well. Maybe I just got lucky, and if so no complaints; but maybe the primer bulbs being new also helped?

One thing to consider is replacement of the O rings for the filters. I don't know if your filters come with a seal or "O" ring. If not, you should replace them peroidically. You can also buy the "O" rings on the bottom--or find them at a hardware store --just get "O" rings which are compatible with gasoline. Here is a video--it may be a larger filter than you have, but some boats may have this one:
