I would call garhauer, they were pretty helpful when I ordered my lifting davit a few weeks ago. Shipping was about 25 bucks to Bellingham.

I was hoping to find a local company that carries them. The exchange rate, duty and shipping all add up.
We are looking at heavier dinghy that we can put a small outboard on and I have decided while I may be able to lift it my back would appreciate the assistance.

Hi Ian, about the only games in BC are Harbour Chandler in Nanaimo or Steveston Hardware in Vancouver for the big guys. All Bay marine in Sidney and Sherwood Power in Victoria. Also try Ocean Pacific in Campbell River and Daigle welding in CR as builders they likely install them. Really only 2 wholesalers in BC of note Western Marine and Payne's Marine

Thanks for all the information. There is a site in Eastern Canada that carries the short arm version but it probably makes more sense to order it direct from California.
After a lot of surfing I am now leaning to keeping our Achilles LT2 and buying either a Yamaha or Suzuki 2.5HP for it. The dinghy weighs less than 40 pounds and I keep it inside at the bow end of the forward berth when we are not cruising. A heavier dinghy would be more difficult to manoeuver through the cabin. The boat is at the dock all season and I do not want to leave the dinghy on the roof all the time.
I will probably try handling the small outboard without a davit to start and see how it works out.

I have bought directly from Garhauer, as well as various dealers. If the firm carries one model, they can get the other model--there are both the long and short arm, but also the different size of tubing and weight rating.
I would agree, that you are best off with the lighter boat. We put a 60# boat on the cabin top, with little problem. I just made an aluminum spreader bar, which will make it even easier. The 2.5 Suzuki is an outstanding motor--and I think closer to 3/ 3.5 hp (comparison with a 3.5 hp 2 stroke Merc). It is only 30#.
I use the Torqeedo 1003, and find it to be a great dinghy motor, and far lighter than nay outboard. (Dinghy is a 9 1/2" air floor West Marine boat).
