Garmin GFS10 fuel sensor install

Installing it myself. Instructions state is must be affixed to the boat via a mounting bracket and zip ties that mount the fuel line on either side. Where it's installed, there is no way to do that without gluing a mounting board (Starboard). I know gluing Starboard can be problematic. Do I have to actually mount the unit or can I just leave it as is, in the middle of the fuel line run?

It is in the starboard battery compartment, way in the stern corner above & behind the starter battery. It's not going anywhere. Am I missing something? Or is Garmin just being liability averse?
 
I think the reason they want it mounted is that they want the sensor oriented so the fuel flows vertically / upward through it. The manual states that this is to avoid air bubbles. I have twin 90s, so have two GFS 10s.

I just used 5200 to adhere a scrap of wood (cedar) on each side and mounted the GFS 10 to that. I used a dab of hot glue to keep the board from sliding down while the real adhesive set. Pretty quick and easy.

Thanks beerman. I guess I'll just glue a piece of teak under there. I didn't even mount the Garmin-supplied filter, as the fuel system already has a screw in (oil filter type) mounted prior to the sensor. The sensor is "vertical" where I mounted it. I'll just do what they instruct.
 
I have put the sensors in position where the fuel line was assured to be vertical, because of its attachments. They worked fine. It is most likely a far better idea to use a mounting board.
