Garmin , Raymarine or ????

Well no, :embarrased but it got me down to the end of the driveway... Forgot to add that I've also got a Raymarine Radar but my GPS is what feeds positions to the AP, I think... :smileo What the heck, I've only got a couple of EE degrees... Maybe that means eeeeeeeeek :!: :!: Come to think on it, the Radar has a gps too....and I'm hooked up via SeaTalk. Haven't seen the boat since Sept, maybe the Garmin is hooked up to the VHF for the DSC function, or maybe the portapotti....

De neck bone connected to the knee bone....

Lyle,

Only one way to solve all of this. My C80 will be installed and the 22-boat in the water soon (prayers attached)... when she floats I'll call -- Bring Shelley, come on over and play, play, play. "Hands on" is the only way to evaluate these complex toys. If you folks plan to boat out of Twin Bridges, prolly a good idea to be fog-proof.

Thanks for the offer Dusty. I know that any time aboard a boat with you is like going to small boat school. However, we'll be working and traveling until almost the end of February, and Les Jr. says that given our timing I'm going to need to make some decisions soon. I am becoming more convinced about the quality of the Navionics Gold, and I like the idea of the XL3 chip. You could circumnavigate Vancouver Island with one chip. Do you think the refresh rate is as good on the C-80 as on the Garmin 2006/3006?

Dusty (and all)

Have you found that a Garmin NEMA interconnect with a Raymarine autopilot does not work well? I am having issues with this currently and plan on installing a new Raymarine Smartpilot on another boat that has a Garmin GPS.

Thanks!

OK, I have decided on the C80 Raymarine system, can someone give me a good description of the difference between the Navionics and CMap mapping systems.
I love Garmin Bluecharts and have used it with a 2006C. After looking at it closely and talking to Les a couple of things came up that I didn't like. The 3010C display will not fit on the 25"er, the 3006C is nice but I was hoping for a bigger display. The 2KW radome is 28" wide, Raymarine 18". Garmin also offers the integrated weather data feature but it costs $15 a month. I am not sure of need for that feature.

Fred,

My 22 should be in the water soon and we can take as much time as you like to play with the C80. My personal preference, but we all have our own tastes! We can run up to the islands for a quick lunch or something...

I really like Garmin gear -- but I wouldn't buy the first car Ford built either. Furuno and Raytheon have been in the radar biz forever with plenty of time to shake out any problems. The Garmin could easily come out as the best electronic gizmo on the block -- I'd personally let it shake down for at least a year -- or Robbin can buy you one of each!

Dusty

Dusty how about Friday, I will be bringing up your anchor (14# Delta) to give to Les.
I am convinced that the C80 is the way to go, I am just interested in the charting/flash card.

Fred

Fred -

We have the complete C-80 system (radar, fishfinder, autopilot, chart/GPS, and remote) installed on TwoLuckyFish. We only have the one navionics chart chip - for Puget Sound. You are more than welcome to come check it out almost any time (except Wednesdays) - we keep Two Lucky Fish in the water at Cultus Bay (South Whidbey) so it is really easy and quick to get underway.

Dusty, you gotta quit pitching these slow soft ones. I am trying to behave myself and be nice.

Dusty couldn't have possibly built the first car Ford built. He wasn't born until nearly a year after that!! :D :D

I'm no spring chicken myself!! :wink I will say that when he was a Captain in the USN on the Independence, I was a lowly Ensign though.

Hey Dusty, did you see in the news where they were taking the AMERICA off the NC Coast and using it for target practice prior to sinking it in 6000 feet of water? If they ever do that to the INDY, I'm going to threaten to go back on active duty again. Actually, I did volunteer a few years ago and they classified me "4I". :?: When I asked what "4I" meant, they said that when the enemy gets to 4th and I streets in D.C., they'd give me a call....

Just a thought. I had the C-80 in my hand looking for a place to mount it in our boat. I put it right back in the box and traded it for the C-70 and have not had 1.5 inch itis to this day. Don't feel that you HAVE to go for the larger screen! But then, bigger may be better....?! Naw! Do love that radar overlap. I just have the one chip - Oly to Pt Hardy. So far that is enough.
