Gas Prices

I drive 110 miles RT to work. Now that my kids are out of the carpool stage I was able to trade in my Taurus wagon -- which was a great car on everything except mpg. I bought a Prius last year -- I average 48 mpg without much change in my driving habits. I save about $150 a month in fuel costs compared to the Taurus -- which brings the effective car payment to about $150 month. That made the Prius one of the cheapest cars I could buy in real dollar from day one. I know a small car won't work for everyone, but it seemed like a reasonable choice for me. I don't yet know the mileage while towing the boat.

The Prius gives you so much information on MPG that I think that you can't help but drive different. I am not much of a lead foot, but am not afraid of the gas pedal either, but when I drive Kathy's prius I am much more aware of my driving style

It's true. Some prius drivers drive kinda slow out of stoplights so as to maximize mpg. When I first got my car I was so mezmorized by the data display, and like the rest of the prius crowd was so busy looking at my dash that I almost rear-ended the car in front of me -- another prius driving too slow with its driver staring at its dash. Like that James Taylor song: "Looking in my rear view mirror I saw myself the next car back... Looking in the rear view mirror 'bout to have a heart attack... "

Hopefully I've gotten past that...
 
Had time yesterday and was driving passed Snohomish, so I checked on prices for 100% gasoline in the area.

Snohomish Farmer's Co-Op; $4.19/gallon for 87
Union 76 @ 235 Pine Ave; $4.15/gallon for 87
Tom Thumb Grocery 76; $4.24/gallon for 87

I filled up my 5 gallon cans for my mower, genset etc. Once I have the boat back on terra firma (brakes) I'm dragging it down for a fill up. It's gonna be an expensive summer....
 
Loaded up on fuel at Hoonah, Alaska yesterday. 81.2 gal of gas & 9.6 gal of diesel for $439 at 4.82 for gas & 4.99 for diesel & don't really think I' ll see it much cheaper this summer.

Bought gas today 3.59 a gallon in Pa. at Costco. Down from 4 dollars plus. Not sure why prices are dropping so fast. All the usual spin is quiet. :roll: It would seem that some of the reasons for the rapid increase might have been a little off the mark since not much has changed. Maybe the boogie man scared the speculators. :D Anyway I wonder how much it will drop?

We had a dime increase to 4.59 about a week ago. I doubt if our area will see
a price decrease until after labor day weekend.

Our area suffers high fuel cost because we can not buy gas from Oregon distributors, and have to rely on the one distributor out of Eureka for our gas.
We need more distribution competition.

In the good old days of gas wars, competition gave us users a break.

My volt now has 5700 mile and my lifetime fuel average is 246 mpg. Wonderful technology. I also feed a jeep, van, corvette and two motorcycles, just not so much any more as the Volt is my preferred ride. Also the boat is full of gas and ready to use. Now if only I could get refunded the road tax I paid for the boat fuel, it would be an almost perfect world.

Just be glad you are not on the west coast, cheapest is $4.22/gal reg. the media says 5/12 refineries are shut down for routine service. I always like the timing of the service as they seem to coinside with the low cost of crude.
 
Man I thought us east coasters were getting the short end of the stick. Two weeks ago I took a 800 mile road trip to Chattanooga,Tn. and bought gas in southwestern Va. for 3.45 a gallon the lowest gas price of the trip. That is so sad to hear the west coast gas prices are so slow to come back down. I can't imagine the taxes are all that much different. We are getting a real deal compared to the west coast. I'll have to postpone our Vancouver to San Francisco trip till the fall of next year.

Here in Bellingham gas prices went up 12 cents just over the weekend. I can't wait for this weekend. If I'm lucky I can find gas for 4.39 per gallon.
 
$4.49 for DEISEL today.
 
Our prices in Anchorage are now $4.35 for reg and $4.55 for diesel. At least the gas is gas. Like Bellingham, we are bucking the trend with increasing prices and declining oil prices. Nationwide prices are down $.18 over the last month and we are up $.13 on unleaded. I might have to start looking for a scapegoat. Alaska crude prices are down $15 a barrel since the first of March to $108, which is a $16 premium over west Texas intermediate crude. Alaska crude is not as high a quality as west Texas intermediate, making the premium price even harder to take. My understanding, it reflects an undersupply situation on the west coast whereas Texas is so to speak up to their ears in oil.
 
It's funny how prices at the pump shoot up at the pumps when someone breaks wind over in the middle east. World Oil barrel prices going down prices at the pump in the U.S. at least out west and in Alaska going up makes me think it's just the American public getting the short end of the stick again. I saw something on the internet about Volkswagen having a diesel car (Passat or Jetta) that gets about 70 miles to a gallon and our gumint won't let them into this country. You have to wonder how much they (both parties) and the department of energy really care about reducing our dependence on foreign oil. :disgust

Gas here in Downeast Maine is about 3.65/gal now and I bought diesel for 3.92 the other day..
 
We bought gas in Sausalito while on the C-Dory Delta cruise...it was $5.18 luckily I didn't need much...I had filled the boat out on Interstate just before the cruise for $3.99 a gallon.

I'm envious of most of you. Today, I filled up my Marinaut. It took 35 gallons of fuel, and at the fuel dock the price was $4.69 per gallon.
 
Today local price (Philadelphia suburbs)for regular unleaded dropped to $3.45 in Pa. Diesel was 3.99. New Jersey is usually much cheaper as they have less state fuel tax than Pa.
