Great Circle Loop /CC23 ":Simplicity"

Jim ,Loree &Marc-We're gonna try to make the get together in Oct. Hope the Hurricanes are winding down by then. Yesterday we cruised through the remnants of Gustav on the Illinois river. It was nice being in a smaller body of water than Lake Michigan with those wind gusts. We are at the confluence of the Illinois & Miss rivers & heading down in a day or two. When we get past the Mississippi we'll slow down.Hope to see you'all in Oct. Alan

We have had quite an adventure the past few days. We were in Grafton, Mo on the 5th and 6th. Celebrated my birthday riding bikes to the state park and back.
We met Randy Sheehy (C-Dory dealer) from the St. Louis area and Randy was super nice by puling our boat out of the water in Alton on Sunday and servicing the motor for us.
:smiled

If you are in the St. Louis area and looking for a c-dory or have one that you need a service guy, call Randy up. He will treat you right.

THANKS RANDY!!!!!!!!!

We left Alton and stayed at Hoppies for the night. Set out this morning at 7am and cruised 259 miles to Buzzard Rock marina on the Cumberland River. Locked through without any delays and only had one incident which will call for Alan to replace prop tomorrow. We hit a submersed log on the Ohio River.
OH Well, it's an adventure!

It has been a month since we left the Mississippi River and have crossed our wake on October 2nd at Lynn Haven Fl.

We passed Ashley Lynn just as we were near the ramp that our sons were meeting us at. What a great sight to finish the loop and seeing a c-dory.

Linda and Alan

Congratulations on the completion of your adventure and thanks much for sharing it here with us. No time schedules-what a way to go. Having to be concerned with the calendar was the biggest strain on our maxing the enjoyment of our cruises.

Jay

Congrats on finishing the loop, very envious!

We are planning to be at the gathering if all goes well. Our youngest (19) , but still our baby has a birthday next week and I am hoping he might go with us or settle for another night celebrating. I don't know if there are any hunters out there, but it is also Archery opening weekend. THinking about driving down Saturday or Friday. Not quite sure what the schedule is, but will check with Marc. When are you goingdown?

Congratulations on completing the Loop! That's still on our to-do list, but will likely be in segments. Now that you're done, do you feel 6 months was enough?

Thanks for posting along the way - we enjoyed following along.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Hi Allan we will be leaving either weds afternoon or early thur morning its about a 10 hr drive so we might spend a night somewhere and hopefully get there thur afternoon .I bought a new trailer and am still setting it up for our trip . hopefully see you there that weekend . we would love to hear all about your trip .

Jim,
For us it was because we had done the FLorida east coast and eastern united states several years ago. THere are areas we would like to go back to and spend more time, but we would trailer her there and launch closer. We are definitely going to do the St. Johns side trip one day. We would go back to Canada, Michigan and Wisconsin. We really had a great time and wouldn't do it differently, but everyone is different. THere are so many people who would not even attempt to do what we did in our boat. I guess you might say it will bring you closer or a divorce one. You have to love boating , the person you are with and not be claustrophobic. We did do the Cumberland River all the way up and enjoyed it. We decided we will do the Tennessee River possibly next fall up to Knoxville and Chattanooga.

After 8 months on land we were ready for some more cruising. We decided to trailer the boat to Lake Superior and cruise the Apostle Islands. We departed Fla on June 28 and camped on our way up in the boat at State Parks in Rogersville, Al(Wheeler), Rend Lake in Southern Illinois and Starved Rock State Park in Illinois. We arrived at my sisters in Winneconne, Wis July 2nd and celebrated the 4th with her and Phil. We decided to do a little shakedown cruise on Lake Winnebago for a three days. We stayed overnight at High Cliff State Park after stopping at Manasha for lunch. The next day we cruised to Fond Du Lac for lunch then cruised on the Fox River to Omro and stayed overnight on their town dock.
We left Winneconne on the July 8th and headed to Lake Superior. We launched the boat at Red Cliff which is about three miles north of Bayfield at Buffalo Bay Campground and marina. We were going to stay just overnight, but after talking to the manager we decided to make this our home base because it was going to be just 250.00 for a month and that included electricity, launching, storing the trailer and car. We even have smoking WI-FI as a bonus. It came out to $8.33 per day, so therefore it was a no brainer.

We are cruising the islands on good days(no wind or little) and exploring by car on the other days. We just spent 2 days in the Duluth area by car while waiting for the weather to clear.

We are continuing our blog for this trip.
