I wonder if folk ever ask themselves, where does the Worldwide December 26th holiday named "Boxing Day" come from?
This word comes from the custom which started in the Middle Ages around 800 years ago: churches would open their 'alms boxe' (boxes in which people had placed gifts of money) and distribute the contents to poor people in the neighbourhood on the day after Christmas.
This year, because December 26th falls on a Sunday, most workers get a day off work on Monday. As with many holi-days this has become commercialized and is celebrated with sales at the malls.
