States not to recognize? I say California is definitely one, I am waffling on the other, probably Texas...

One of our young dock hands is from the Ukraine. When I asked him how he was enjoying his time here, he said, "I LOVE this country!" And, he's never had the opportunity to see Texas OR Washington. :wink:

Patty here. I keep telling Pat to let me read his posts before he hits the submit button so I can keep him out of trouble. But NO...he has to stick his foot in it all on his own. Know this---he does not speak for me.

What a great weekend. I finally got done working on the boat with most systems up and running by 2pm Saturday. I was up until 11pm Friday night working on the boat when I just had to lay down and go to sleep on the bow. I was done......well done pounding my head against the fiberglass.
So we head out to the Burlington Costco for gas. It is the only Costco that has fuel with out ethanol in it in my area. The marysville costco has ethanol. It is also a little cheaper then snohomish and king county because of taxes. I paid $2.66 on Friday. I bring this up because a lot of use have to go right by here to get to the islands. Its one block from the off ramp and has plenty of room to pull Thu and out. Quick on and off Gas stop.
launched at twin bridges at 4 and ran on flat seas to Deer Harbor by 5:20. We meet up with the folk and tied up to them. I got to really test the dingy on this trip. I can blow it up on the aft deck and then lift it over the rail and into the water. Then attach the motor from the swim step. Easier then I thought it would be. Susan loaded up the dog and ran to shore and back with out much trouble. she really likes how easy it is to take him to shore. the whole reason for this new boat was to anchor out more in comfort and I think we have nailed it.
After dinner with the folks we waited for the fire works, which were pretty good for such a small place. Deer harbor is in a small canyon so the booms were really loud and echoed back and forth very quickly. The deer harbor marina had a live band and some other activities going on and the dock was really crowded but it is worth it for the ice cream run and a walk on the beach.
The next morning we were greeted with a visit from a new tug, the R-matey. Ruth and Joe tied up to the other side of my folks boat and hanged out for a while. We also ran in to Dwight on check point II. He was anchored out in the back of the bay. After a while my folks left to move their boat to Fisherman's bay. We stayed and tied to a buoy because I have not worked all the kinks out of the windlass yet.
As we sat on the buoy and read books I looked up to noticed one of our neighbors drift by with his anchor hanging straight down.??? I thought he must be moving and anchoring up some where else. Them I noticed that their dinghy was gone and no one was at the controls??? it was drifting in the wind at a good pace and heading for several boats and then the private dock just short of the marina. So I grab the dinghy and ran over to the boat and boarded her. I was going to drop the anchor more but the door was locked. Well Susan waved down one of the steam powered launches that have been cruising around all day and sent him over to help me. We tied off the sea sport to the launch and started to tow it to a mooring buoy when the owner showed up in his dinghy and the keys. He jumped on board and started up the motors and him and I went to a mooring buoy and secured his boat. he was very happy that I saw his sea sport and took action. His problem was that he only had out about 50 ft of rode and chain in 20 ft of water. I stopped by later and he was surprised that I use 6 to 1 scope on the anchor. so 20 ft of depth should have be 120 feet of rode and he only had 50???
So later we cruised over to the mother ship in fisherman's bay for dinner and fireworks. the R matey showed up for dinner and ice cream before the show. man is that a nice boat. And those thrusters must be great to have. My father loves explosions as much as I do and was well placed far south in the bay and as close as he could get in the shallow water to see the show. Nothing between us and the beach. The show was another winner this year. They always do a good job at fisherman's and if you want a anchor out and see a show its the one to see. I will say that what we saw of the Friday harbor show over the tree line, that they have upped the show a little compared to the pathetic one we saw two years ago.
Monday we wave good by to the mother ship as she headed home and we moved to a floating dock. This dock is brand new and has a mooring buoy with WDFW numbers on it. Now one was using it so we did. I am not sure who owns it or if its free to use but no one complained. If it is a state float it would make a great place to tie up several c-Dory's with room to sit on the dock and visit and have a small pot luck. I will check into who owns it unless someone here knows.
We took the launch to the marina and walked to town for lunch. Visited with Carl and Family at the dock and on the way back from town. They are out there for the week. should have a great time with this weather.
After much debate we decided that we could be late for work on Tuesday and stay another night. So we kicked off for Friday harbor and dinner and a movie. Nice thing about Friday harbor is the bath and showers. You do not need a code to use them as you do at many other marina's. So if you need a shower after hours this is the place to go. Toy story 3 was good, not great but good and worth seeing.
Up at 6:30 and off the dock by 7 to hit the trailer by 8 at twin bridges. left the ramp at 9 home by 10 and at work by 11. Home at 7 and bed by 10. nice long day and a great weekend with family and friends.
