Heater/stive fuel vent?

Any ideas on the rationale for venting the Wallas fuel container into the space under the galley counter? I just discovered this feature while scoping out the installation of a small electric potable water pump.

We put a small water pump--manual switch--no pressure switch-- on our 22. No problem with the fuel container. I suspect that it is vented there, because that is most convient and should be dry. I have never noticed any diesel oder in any of our 3 boats with the Wallas stove.
 
I noticed that with mine too. I have a fair sized hole for wiring in the rear bulkhead under the galley leading under the gunnel. I poke the existing vent hose out this hole amongst all the wires - no problems, no odors.
 
I had a very heavy diesel odor once the weather became warmer. I posted that I had removed the stove and found no fuel in it nor odor associated with it.

Someone responded they had solved a similar problem by venting the stove to the cockpit. Their theory was that the expansion and contraction taking place as the day warmed up and cooled down was responsible for the odor in the cabin. I've made this change (vented back to the splash well as that was easiest) but have not yet added fuel to test the results. I can't see doing this until I'm ready to use the stove.

If that doesn't do it, I'm tempted to change out the exceedingly flimsy plastic bottle used for the reservoir and see if that improves things. I'm hoping the changed vent location does it.

At first I thought that the bottle was pretty flimsy, too. However, I think
it is more flexible than flimsy. I bent mine pretty good one day, and it
popped back out without a problem. Also, I've never seen a galley photo
with anything other than that bottle if a Wallas is installed.

Anyone ever have problems with the fuel bottle?

After realizing how efficient the stove is I built a smaller tank assembly using a 1 gallon Nalgene bottle. it mounts right to the wall under the sink in an area previously unusable due to the drain hoses. I eliminated the vent all together and everything still works fine. I understand the thinking about expansion / contraction but am of the opinion the real design of the vent is to prevent a vacuum from forming. I will post a picture when I get home for anyone interested in the set up.
