I am a new member of C-Brats. I have been visiting the C-Brats site for about two years. The site is a tremendous source of information. You all seem like friendly helpful folks.

In the next year, I will be in the market for a used (up to 4-5 yrs. old) 22' Angler/Cruiser. The boat will be used for a combination of fishing and cruising in the Thousand Islands, Rideau System area (i.e. freshwater use primarily).

Although I keep a constant eye on the "boats sold by owner" list, I was wondering about other sources of information for used C-Dorys - brokers, websites etc.

I recently moved from Victoria, BC to Kingston, ON. The C-Dorys I saw on the west coast, always appealed to me as being the boater's boat - simply an intelligent design with plenty of utility.

What are the key features that attracted you to C-Dory ownership and what are the potential trouble areas? It is always nice to get some kind of balanced feedback when getting ready to make a big purchase.

Thanks for all your help.

Cheers, Craig

First off, welcome to your extended family

"What are the key features that attracted you to C-Dory ownership and what are the potential trouble areas? "

I've been watching C-Dories since the late '80s. I love the salty looks and the rugged, utilitarian construction. The fuel econimy is hard to beat in a 22' boat with this much useable room.
But the feature that sold me on C-Dory, is the community of C-Brats. What a great bunch of people.
The factory is very customer service oriented. We bought our boat used from a private party, but the facrory people treat us like we just took dilevery of a new boat.
Does it get any better than that?
As for the "potential trouble areas? ", read thru the posts on this web site. The owners have been honest about the few flaws, but most, if not all, have been resolved.
Good luck.

When shopping for a boat back in the early 80's I was looking for a boat with the following features:
1. shallow water running(launch in a tidal river, 30' tide)
2. good in rough water
3. easy to maintain
4. good fuel economy.

The C-Dory met all of those requirements so I bought a 1983 C-Dory at the factory from Mark Toland and towed it to Alaska.
I still have it and it is just as useful today as back then.
I do not need the shallow running feature as we now launch in the ocean surf using a tractor. That service was not here in 1983.

I just wish it had a fish box in the bottom. Not to be in a dory. Everything is a trade off.

Craig;
Nice to see another fellow Canuck on the site. Although going from Victoria to Kingston... well we all have to make sacrifices....
I own a 1981 Hunky Dory which was what the first Cdorys where called. I use it mostly on Harrison Lake as we have a cabin up there. The boat is all that I could ask for, Yes it pounds in chop but I have ordered trim tabs and will put them on this winter. From what I read on this site, it will make a big differance.
Good luck on your hunt.
Jimbo
