Help adding photos

Here is a brief tutorial on adding photos to your album, for the new members and the old members that have not gotten the add photos to your album figured out.

If you find it helpful or not, post your input here. If enough of you find it helpful, maybe it can go in the documents section and new users can be referred to it when they need help adding photos to their album.

If it is not helpful, this thread can be deleted.

This file will be helpful I'm sure, this question certainly comes up week after week! A couple of suggestions.

First, you might start by telling folks that they CAN'T add photos until they have an album set up, and they should PM Tyboo or Da Nag to request a photo album. This is not obvious, and needs saying..

Second, you might mention the other two ways to get to your album once one exists, namely, clicking on the Photos: link in the Author panel of any message you have posted, which is fastest, or going in through the Photos menu item, through Our C-Dorys and then to the page with your album. I know you were trying to keep it simple, and maybe this would overly complicate it, or you assume people will figure it out after they have added their first pic or two. It is just a thought.

Third, you might include a final section on how to include a pic in a message post with the IMG tags, this is a related question that comes up all the time too.

Anyway, good work!

Dave,

With the green font the link doesn't look much different than the rest of the text - at least to my eyes in the early AM low light level (and I'm not colr blind but the 13% of males whould bo are won't see it at all). Hence, on my first reading of "Here is a brief tutorial...", I was thinking "where??". Of course I realized that YOU a) would provide things via a link and b) wouldn't forget to embed that so I moused over "Here" and then the link was more obvious. Maybe you could edit the post to underline the link or use the less elegant "Click here for..."

BTW - good tutorial. I hate to create more work for a volunteer but I do have some additional suggestions
1) It should be expanded to explain in detail how to link a photo in a post - I think that's more difficult for some. Do to the lack of a right mouse button on most macs and slight variances in the text displayed by different browsers, when one does right click (or cntrl-click), the photo linking in a post is slightly different between macs and PC's. I put a post on how to do this for the Mac people awhile ago in the Mac Users forum. That text could be added and expanded upon a bit for the tutorial.
2) I think that we should create the tutorials in HTML and send them to Bill(DaNag) for addition to the help button. A lot of info is already there.

3) Bill - DaNag - when I click on the help button this AM - I discovered that it appears to be a victim of recent file corruption problem... as I get "Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting ')' in /home/cbadmin/public_html/language/lang_english/lang_faq.php on line 34"

4) It would be great if on sign up a welcome email with the tutorials or with a link to tutorials went out to new members.

Not everyone...like new members know who Tyboo and Da Nag are...or how to contact them. It may be in the help section, but since I have never ventured there I don't know for sure.

I would suggest a link on the front page to " webmaster@c-brats.com " be added. Most know to contact the webmasters when they need help with a site.

My 2 1/2 cents worth...

Pat, Roger & Mike - all three of you have good suggestions. I did not want to get too involved creating a help file if it was not going to be helpful. I will work on it and as Roger suggested in HTML. I will also expand the help information as Pat suggested including help about imbedding photos in post. I will need help if we are going to include information about other browsers and the Mac. Still want to keep it simple so it is easy to understand.

This will still be subject to Mike and Bill’s approval.

Dave-

Thanks for your help in assisting new members to post photos!

You're a real workhorse for the C-Brats, abd we all appreciate your contributions.

Joe.

Dave,

Great work... Here is what I posted the other day for Windows users to post pictures already on the net.

Once you post the pics in your album you can go to the picture and right click on it (Assuming a windows machine) and then click on Properties. If you are using IE you will want the Address and if you are using Firefox you want the Location. Copy that and then go to the reply window. In the reply window click the Img button and then paste in the link to the picture. Then click the Img button again. Smile

OR you can do the following.

Paste the link in the editor but surround it with
Code:
[IMG]Link to pic[/IMG]
