http://www.wunderground.com/sailing-weather/ has launched a new service for boaters, in partnership with https://activecaptain.com. Today's an interesting day to check out some of the wave heights at various locations.

"Weather Underground’s unrivaled network of 16,000 personal weather stations across the US reports current wind speed and direction readings, and generates the most localized and reliable coastal weather forecasts. The detailed wave graphs separate out swell and wind waves to effectively prepare sailors for conditions out on the water. Tide charts also allow users to view both historical and future tidal data."

"ActiveCaptain provides specialized, local marine information that is plotted on an interactive map. Featured data points include nearest anchorage, marine hazards, local knowledge and nearest marinas. Weather Underground’s animated radar and satellite data are also available as extra layers on the map."

They're still working out a few bugs. We've had good success using on the ipad with Safari and on the PC with Firefox. Internet Explorer seems to render sporadically, but then again, my PC's having trouble with IE. I have to reinstall. So it may work fine for you.

Another great service from Active Captain and Weather underground. It would be nice if the was an "App", since often we do not have computer access. (Yes the iPad does have G3 access, but variable by location.)

Apparently this depends on personal weather stations or as in one case in Pensacola, a WalMart. I assume that there is integration with weather buoys for the wave patterns.

Thanks!
