Honda EFI 50 rpms

Our 2011 motor runs fine, most of the time. It starts right up and never stalls. However sometimes it will speed up on its own, or hesitate momentarily and then settle back to an even rpm. The engine has only 55 hours on it, of which I put on 30 and the previous owner 25. I don't know if the 20 hour maintenance was ever done. I spoke with an O/B mechanic and he said the fuel injectors should be sent out for cleaning. Does this sound right? Thanks.

We change out our H20 seperator and filter on engine every year also we put in fuel injector cleaner every 6 months or so . Our Yamaha and Suzuki always ran good no up and down rpm's .Could this be Honda's lean burn system ??Hopefully Les or another tech will chime in ?

Hi,

I'll say right up front that I don't have specific knowledge of this particular issue. That said, it sounds like the ECM is trying to change the timing or fuel delivery to meet a specific parameter. It may be that a sensor is not sending the proper information or that something is affecting a parameter in a non-typical way.

I guess what I'm really trying to say is that with EFI engines it's best to connect the computer and see what information is in the ECU with regard to issues or codes. Nowadays it's a lot more difficult to guess what's wrong since the systems are pretty complex.

What you describe is not something we've been taking complaints about so it doesn't seem like a typical issue or where I can say "Oh yeah, it does that when...blah, blah, blah".

Les
