I just had my 2004 C-Dory-22 re-powered going from Suzuki 70Hp to Honda 90Hp with a 5Hp kicker. I found the Suzuki to be very unreliable over the years. Always little things but they constantly interfered with being out on the water. It took about 3 months to get the 90Hp (everyone including Honda blamed the virus). Planning to launch tomorrow and continue the break-in process.

That looks like a clean installation.

I plan on installing a kicker on the 22 Cruiser we bought last summer, and was not sure there was room to mount directly to the transom. We have the swim platform on the port side, which forces the kicker to starboard amongst the cables and all.

Is your kicker linked to the 90 for steering?

Awesome choice. We love our V-tec Honda 90. The only problem I've ever had with it is one of the cooling hoses under the cowl would pop off flushing with a hose at the dock. Probably more of an issue with uneven hose pressure than the outboard itself. I fixed it with a small zip tie and it's never happened again. Just rock solid reliability.

I just ordered a Honda 90 for my '86 Angler with a dealer install in Duluth, MN, where they don't expect to get one until June or July. I'd like to know what type of gauges you had installed as I'm trying to figure out the best way to get the fuel flow information from the engine displayed.

Very nice. Our boat was repowered from the original Handa 75HP to the 90HP. We have a Honda 9.9 HP as our kicker. One thing you may want to consider is adding a Permatrim to the 90. It works really well.

I used the standard Honda gages (I can get the details and a picture). I have the fuel gage installed but it is not connected at this time (didn't want an empty slot for now). I am not sure how you make that work with two separate tanks...I guess two gages? I have never had that before...only "looking at the tank" visual gage. Not a big requirement for me but curious how others made it work. Thanks.

I have had boats with 2 tanks - 1 gauge and a toggle switch. The gauge displayed whichever tank was connected via the toggle switch position.

I wonder if this is based on the fact that the 100 hp Honda is the 75/90 hp with some minor tuning. This is a 1496 CC block. The 115, 135 and 150 share the 2354 CC block (and119# more weight).

A lot of the outboard motors use the same block for a wide range of HP--for example most of the major players have the same block for 150, 175 and 200 hp. Some have a second HO with a large block 200, which is also the 225 and 250 hp. Weight makes a lot of difference.

I'm reasonably sure it was from a popular publication fairly recently. Their dyno test was showing close to 105 hp. I wish I could remember where I saw it. Those in the know about dyno tests wouldn't bet the farm that Honda 90s actually have 105 hp at the prop, but I expected less hp, not more.

When, I repowered with the twin Honda 60’s, I chose, the cheaper analog gauges, that just show rpm motor hours, due to the cost of the more expensive digital gages & thinking fairly soon, I would be updating chart plotter where all the nmea 2000 motor information could be displayed there. The route I’m now going is turning to be a even more expensive. I replaced the old Garmin 545 with a Raymarine Axion 9+ & don’t want to to diminish the view on it, but still wanted multiple motor information viewable all the time. The answer to this became now installing Honda HD-4 digital gauges with the needed nmea 2000 network. This, I’ve combined with the Raymarine nmea 2000 system, including auto pilot into one network bringing together gages, chart plotter & auto pilot with information shared between them & can easily add different items to the network in the future. It’s been a tough learning process for me to bring all this together with some light at the end of the tunnel, as I head out today, where it’s presently 7 degrees F to install the nmea 2000 lines on the motors & then run them to the back of the helm.

I have been going through the break in process on my new Honda motors and have a question. Compared to the Suzuki I replace the steering on the new BF90 is very stiff. Is this normal at first and/or is there an adjustment? Thanks.

I read that the 90 hp honda can out at 105 hp also but honda did not want to compete in that market for verse
reasons.
