I've searched everywhere for the serial number(s) on my 1994 honda 45's. Finally found where the plate "used to be", apparently the rivets have corroded away, leaving no plates. It doesn't look like they've been removed as an act of vandalism because most of the rivet is still there, yet corroded.
Fortunately, the original owner had written the numbers down twice in the paperwork and owner's manual that came with the boat. The problem is that he has written down 3 numbers for each engine. One is the model number (BF45A MLRTA) but the other 2 sets of numbers are what he calls a "frame" number and an "engine" number. The frame numbers are both "BLAF" followed by a 7 digit number, the engine numbers are simply 7 digit numbers (that do not match the 7 digits in the frame numbers mentioned above).
I need this info for my insurance policy, so came anyone confirm that the 7 digit "engine" number is actually the serial number? I'll also stamp some plates to rivet back where the originals were located.
