Has anyone used the ZODI HOTMAN EXTREME S/C shower? They run about $129 at Cabelas. $149 other places. It looks like a metal fertilizer sprayer or fire extinguisher.

I would hot link if I knew how. Google brings up several versions. But only one looks like a stainless fire extinguisher. You set it over a burner to get hot, has a temp gauge and you pump the spray handle for pressure. If it workers as advertised it seems like a solution for me. I use coleman stoves and burn white gas. I would use that to heat it over the bottled propane. It comes with the propane tri-pod and burner. Heats in under 10 minutes.

We use the Zodi, Traverler Series, which fits into a nice small case that holds 4 gal and if you recycle the water through the heater and back into the holding case you can get it as hot as you want.

This looks like a good system. Thanks for starting this thread - hadn't heard of these before. I've been trying to think of the perfect gift for our friends that we stayed with this summer on their island in Nova Scotia. They will love having that two-burner model. As it is now, a warm bath for them and their kids takes about an hour to complete, and they usually stay up there two weeks at a time. I would agree that the very simple pump model would be perfect for a C-Dory. Look forward to seeing an enterprising C-Brat come up with the perfect storage / rigging soluiton for it!
 
Chris, we have used the ZODI HOTMAN EXTREME S/C shower many times. We put it on the wallas till the temperature gets to 90 deg F. With the enclosed canvas in the cockpit you can shower in privacy. It has worked well and makes extended cruises more comfortable when there are no shower facilities available. We always use biodegradable soap when we use it on the boat. We store it on brackets under the forward dinette seat. I have pictures of it in use but alas Robbin will not let me post them :oops: .

How many showers can you get out of one heating of the Extreme?

You can get two sailor showers out of one tank or one nice long shower. The shower is a little expensive. The other possibility would be to buy one of those poly bug sprayers at Home Depot, heat the water in a kettle, pour the water in the sprayer and shower.
 
Actually, most times we use a 5 gal. sun shower when the water is too cold to swim. We've gotten as warm as 114F. And we've used the sun shower on cloudy days as well by heating water to boiling on the Wallas and then mixing it with lake water. The nice thing about the sun shower is that it stows well when empty and is economical when the sun shines. Also, it can be placed on the cabin roof both to heat and to supply an elevated position for the gravity feed.
 
We also use a sun shower in the summertime. The reason we like the Extreme is the ease of use in the wintertime. No hassle just heat it to the temp you want, pump it up and your ready.
 
Yeah, if our lakes weren't frozen solid all winter I might do the same!

I was in Lowes Hardware today and noticed a stainless 2 gallon fertilizer bottle. Aside from the brass wand instead of the shower nozzle it looked like the extreme. The price was $42. I have a poly sprayer and the pump is plastic. Is that what the extreme has for a pump? I would just like the extreme bottle without the burner but I don't think it is available that way.
 
Chris, The Extreme has a plastic pump. I don't know about Cabela's but I bought it with the tank only from another vendor. I am at work right now so I don't have it but I will get you the link just for the tank. If you have a solar shower the hose and nozzle from that may adapt up to the stainless sprayer you found??

The problem with that solution for us, Moose, is that the sun actually has to be shining...:wink:

Well, I guess we do have THAT on you out here...:lol: Kids don't ice skate much on lakes around here (see our December 2003 Lake Washington - Lake Union - Ship Canal day crusie pix for the typical condition of lakes around here - most definitely in a liquid state!)

I think the real benefit of the sun shower is that there is nothing preventing one from heating water for it on the Wallas when the sun is not shining and then using it as normal. Space is at such a premium that I could not justify storage of a separate, single-purpose, bulky apparatus when the compact sun shower will do nicely.

Here is a shower that is heavy vinyl. It has an open top that allows you to scoop up lake water or is wide enough to pour in heated water without a funnel. The top folds/rolls over to close. Has a soap holder and can be used as a dry storage bag. 20 liters gives a ten minute shower. Snap link on the handle/hanger seems good, too. Anyone try it? I am thinking of ordering. Cool weather demands a hot shower. It is a bit pricier than most soft portables but seems to have some nice features.
