How prevelant are the 14' C-Dory's

As I've posted before, we're looking for something fun and as I read more and more about them. I believe it's the right fit for us, I see that there are 14' versions out there, but I also see that they are far and few between.

Does anyone know of one for sale?

Mark-

1. 14's are rare, and sell like ice water in Hades when one turns up somewhere!

2. Look closely, a 14 and a 16 are very different boats, not just two boats that are only different by 24 inches.

Be sure a very small runabout with very few features and creature space is for you.

The 14 is a runabout hull with a C-Dory like cabin hood, and more like a dinghy in size and function. Folks here love 'em cause they're cute and are a C-Dory, too!

The 16 is a miniature fishing boat that has a cruiser look-alike sister, and they are both seaworthy boats in their own right.

The above is, of course, oversimplified, but IMHO, has some real truth to it.

Think about your planned use for the boat, what equipment and other "stuff" you will be taking along, then think again.

Folks with 22's and 25's are always amazed about how much stuff they wind up having aboard after a few months or longer.

Have your cash in hand if you want a 14. They don't last more than a few hours around here!

Good Luck!

I don't know if this is a current ad or not:

I have seen two 14's. One was more like a dingy as Joe says. The other was being used as a dinghy! Different boats.

Unless you want a lower freeboard etc--go for at least the 16. Try and get a ride in a 16 before you decide.

I reached out to the one in Iowa and it's been sold. While I was riding around today, I ran across a 16" Angler, but was unable to speak with the owner.

I like the Angler and the open space it offers vs the other 16' C-Dory. That being said, if I spend a little more cash, I could purchase a 19' and of course the long distance to drive.

I have one of the elusive 14's. It is a very fun little boat, and gets the usual C-Dory attention where ever it goes. Everyone wants to look at it and many want to buy it. I've had people stand on the dock and argue with me that it's not a 14 C-Dory because "C-Dory never made a 14".

We tow it behind our bigger boat in protected waters. I bought it because it was a C-Dory, it's unique and I thought it would make a good tender. I would compare it to a small motorcycle. It's noisy, quick to respond and balance is everything.

The downside to the boat is that it isn't very practical. It will hold 3 large people or 4 small people when used as a tender. I have downrigger mounts on it and use it for fishing. Kind of works with two people, is ridiculous with 3, even if they aren't large people. A much more practical boat is the 16 angler. I sometimes think I would like one so that I had a better fishing platform, but so far just can't give up the 14.

I have pictures of it in our photo album. They give a perspective of the size, people do a double take when they see us towing on the hip of the bigger boat.
