How will my ride be in a 22 c dorry

Hello friends, Not a fisherman just want to cruise and explore.

I am new to this great site and look forward to purchasing one of these great little c dorry boats! Just had some newbie questions for ya.

1. I'm 6'2" tall and wondered if I will be comfortable in the cabin and birth of a c dorry 22 cruiser.

2. My current boat is a 1997, 17' four winns freedom open bow. How will my ride compare to the c dorry?

3. My primary use for a c dorry would be here in KY : Ohio river, Cumberland river and lake etc. and yes, like most of you guys I would love to do the great loop one day! Some waters are shallow in the areas I would like to boat in.. Seems the c dorry would be the perfect boat for me. What say you?

4. What kind of craft can one get with 35,000.00???

Thanks in advance!

If you are still interested next summer, I will more than likely be stopping in Lexington to see my daughter with my 22' Cruiser behind me and I can easily swing by Paris and let you see a 22 for yourself. :)

Kyboating,
The C-Dory 22 comes with 6'2 cabin and also one that is 6'6". Mine is the 6'2", but you can see others that have the 6'6" like Charlie's new (to him C-Dory 22) boat.

I cruise with mine and have enjoyed not only the pleasure of being inside (very low fatigue, due to no direct sun or wind), but also the fact that it is really cheap to run compared to most other cruisers. You will also really enjoy the comradery of this no frill group, no matter where you cruise.

I went on a spin this morning in OSPREY for several hours. It was 34 degrees and the wind was blowing about 10 to 15 knots. At ~ 12 knots boat speed, I was very comfortable, with no pounding and it was 71 degrees in the cabin, thanks to the Wallas heater/stove.

Best regards,
Steve Baum

Welcome aboard! I am also 6'2" (OK shrunk a little with age), and not issues with the "Standard" cabin. The door is lower, and you have to duck--but that becomes a reflex. The bunk is long enough. I sleep on the Port side, because the console wiring has some intrusion into the Stb side (my wife who is 5' 8" is fine there).

You should be fine with the ride. At times the boats can pound when the chop gets up. You have to put the bow down, and drive into the chop, or "tack" from one side to the other, to get a better ride. You also will need to slow down some times. The deeper V of your current boat, does a litle better in the chip--but in some condittions the C Dory will ride better. The boats begin to plane at 10 or so knots--pretty well on plane by 13 knots. The deep V will not begin to plane until higher speeds.

You should get a good boat, well outfitted for the $35K--probably in the 2002 to 2006 age range, with a low hour motor.

I always recommend that a new owner look at one in person, and try a ride.

Greetings, my family hails from Paris but we are now in Nc. I spent years exploring the Ky river and would love to get it back there for a cruise in my 22 cd. I am 6'2 ,Maybe shrunk a little over the years, but I love the fact the boat seems to be built around my dimensions, with the berth at 6'3 and the settee down gives another place, Just long enough for me , and the height is perfect without having to bend down..I feel like it was perfect without buying bigger than I need. Fuel economy and Reliability will add to the experience. Good luck.

I opted for the CD22 because it felt like the most bang for the buck and a year later I'm glad I did. I love my boat and we cruised hundreds of miles last year, I can only imagine what my fuel costs would have been had I gone with the searay sundancer I was looking at instead.

My 6'7" buddy joins me on the CD22 often, and has slept on the boat (I gave him the vbirth, and I take the dinnette, i'm 5'9. he has never complained and he seems to be comfortable sitting at the dinnette when under way.
