I'm busy prepping my 22' cruiser for this season and took her for a test cruise yesterday. I had a little trouble at high RPMs and it appears that the hub in my Solas prop slipped and spun. My Suzuki 90 hp was revving fine but the boat was not getting up to speed and there was a hint of a burnt rubber smell. Everything seemed fine at 2000 RPM and below. I removed the prop when I got home but can't see any visual problem with it. I've never had a problem like this before. I'll change the prop to my 'spare', the original Suzuki prop, and give another run. Any thoughts on potential other causes? Has anyone had hub slipping problems with a Solas aluminum prop?

Any prop can spin a hub. Sometimes for no apparent reason, at times overloaded. Take the prop to a prop shop and they can check it for you. Always a great idea to have a spare prop, spare castle nut and washere, plus the tools to change a prop on the water.
