I need help pricing my Uncles C-Dory for sale.

Unfortunately my uncle has Cancer and has decided to sell his boat that has been in dry dock. He has asked me to help him sell the boat. I’m trying to find out a good asking price and the correct forum in witch to sell it. This is what I know.
It’s a 1984 27ft C-Dory (he described it as an Extra Cabin that sleeps 4)
It has a Volvo Diesel Dual Prop Engine with less then 200 hours.
It also has; Twin Hydraulic Gerdies (Apparently made by an engineer from Hughes Aircraft with Helicopter parts), Outriggers, Stabilizers, and probably outdated electronics.
I’m not familiar with the state of the boat except that the seals around the windows are leaking and need to be replaced. I’m going out to his house this weekend to take pictures and get a better idea of the condition. Thank you for any help that I can get. He mentioned this club and I thought it would be a good place to start.
 
Sorry to hear about your uncles illness. The 27's were a small production numbered boat with not much info out there, I am sure the long time users to the site will be able to help, especially once you have some pics and more info.
 
I have a 27 but with new outboards. take pictures and make a list of equipment, everything you can think of. gallons of fuel tanks water tanks, type of head, stove heat? just start at the bow and take a lot of pics and notes. Once you post that we can all take a look and tell you what we think. On a boat this old it will have a lot to do with condition and equipment. oh and motors, what are they h.p. gas or diesel?
 
Chris, sorry for the situation you find yourself in, also for your uncle, a tough road to go down. Follow the advice here and we'll help you price it fairly and get a quick sale, if that's what you're after. Don't jump at the first offer (if you can wait), that's a classic you've got there.

Tom, gotta be an Inboard/Outboard Volvo Dsl. He said 200HP DuoProp. Sounds like a vintage boat, great buy for someone probably, depending on condition.

I thank everyone and I will have a better more precise list of equipment and the condition after my visit. Along with pictures and I'm sure a few stories from my uncle as well.
 
I am curious about this one. I know that ClipperCraft made a 27 with a Volvo diesel IO, but I had not heard of CDory doing so. Could it be like some of the boats made for charter in Alaska?? I guess we will see when Chris visits his uncle.

I'm pretty sure that "Aviq" is a C-Dory 27 footer that used to have a Volvo I/O .
Do a search for some interesting adventures by this unusual boat and it's crew.

Aiviq originally had a gasoline powered volvo AQ/151. I had a mercruiser engine put in when the volvo died. I know C-dory did build at least a couple of the 27 long cabins with duoprop diesel engines. I've seen a couple of them advertised for sale over the years, but none recently. I'm pretty sure there was one advertised on the C-Dogs site 7 or 8 years ago or so, around the time I bought Aiviq. Too bad their archives aren't available.
 
I just got back from my Uncles house a few hours ago. I took many pictures and got a copy of the “Boat Specifications” and the Flyer that has the pictures of the different C-Dory 27’s with layouts on the back. Unfortunately, I have not figured out how to post the pictures on the C-Brats site. I work at 6 am and it’s been a long one, so I’ll try again tomorrow. Once again thanks for the help.
 
The administrator can make an album for you. If you list the boat "for sale" you can post photos on along with the ad, I believe without an album.

I think in this case you would be best off with an album. I sense there is a lot of interest in this boat--good luck.
 
The 27' C-Dory in Valdez AK is owned by a friend; spent many a night with him on the water. The Pelican did have a Volvo diesel; when it sank that got replaced with a gas motor.

It does very well on fuel; speed wise it's a standard C-Dory. Does not steer as well as the outboards (no surprise); but if you need to make sharper turns, just go to reverse. It's a great boat. Handles rougher water than my 22' classic and has the range to go out farther and stay longer than I can.

If your uncle's boat has the fish hold, he has a treasure. Best wishes to both of you.

I’m still having problems posting the pictures. I’m unable to link them to a URL, so I’m asking the administrator for a photo album. Anyway the condition of the boat is dirty and weathered. It defiantly needs some TLC. When he purchased the boat it was docked in Oxnard CA. He spent most of his time on other people’s boats as he wanted to know everything about different boats. That is why it only has 269 hrs on the Engine. After a while my Aunt ordered him to move back home and he put the boat in Dry Dock in Lake Elsinore, Ca. While having $$ problems about 10 years ago he tried again to make a living fishing but got tired of hauling to boat 3 hours to Oxnard. So the boat returned to storage. It is weathered but defiantly usable and is built very well according to him. He mentioned that it has extra think Balsa Wood and that the roof is 1 inch thick. The Trailer that comes with it is used but was completely rebuilt just a year ago when he moved the boat from storage to his drive way. I hope to have the pictures available soon along with the Boat Spec’s.

The album is up, so you should be able to post any JPEG photos you have--it pays to down size them to internet size--speeds the process up.

Even if a C Dory is dirty, moldy, etc, they are reasonably easy to restore.

The photos are a big help. That is a lot of cockpit! Now that folks can see what the boat is, it should help them get an idea of what it will take to bring the ol' gal back to her former glory.

Good luck with finding the boat a new home.
