I replaced my Wallas stove with an Origo

We have both a butane single burner stove and a Coleman Fold 'n Go two burner propane stove. We have used them both on the boat in the cockpit, not the cabin. We mostly use the Coleman now, it stores easily and works great. It is both a backup to the Wallas (not "Wallace" or "Wallis"!) and as an alternative to the Wallas when we just want to boil water quickly for coffee or whatever. I just can't think of any reason to use a portable alcohol stove, especially for $250 when the butane stove costs $15 - $30 and Coleman propane stove costs about $70, and both work better...
 
We use the same technique as Pat and Patty - the Wallas for cooking 'big' meals and heating the boat interior, and a small propane backpacking stove for quick boiling water, like hot coffee at dawn. All our propane cooking is done outside in the cockpit, and is easy. Since witnessing a propane explosion from accumulation in the bilge caused by a leaking connection on a sailboat, we won't have propane inside the cabin.

We had an origo two 'burner' on a sailboat - it was very slow to bring a kettle to a boil and the condensation, odor, and monoxide required everything to be open, and that was cold in the winter.

We don't use the Wallas for overnight heating - we simply put on another blanket on cold nights.
 
My Wallas is 7 years old. Originally my wife complained about the diesel exhaust smell (blown back at us when it was windy) so we changed to kerosene. About 4 years ago we switched to Kleen Heat and have used that without problems. About 3 years ago I had some intermittent trouble starting it...some things El and Bill said about having the starboard engine running (1800 rpms) before starting made some sense so I've done that ever since. Everytime I look at the underside of it I get the willies.....I think Tyboo Mike shielded all that complex-looking stuff with some kind of a board. I have read the 'Wallas debates' on this site for the last 7 years and keep my fingers crossed that mine will keep giving me good service which it has.
 
When we bought the cc-23 it came with the single burner wallas .when we first fired it up it smoked and didn't really run that well. we cleaned out the tank put new clean heat in and it runs good now. we also now start it up once a month this seems to help it
 
My 07 came with the Kenyon butane installed and I've been pretty content with it. Only problem the canisters aren't as readily available as the propane canisters but there's a place on e-bay that sells them by the case for less than $2 a canister. It heats quickly and a canister will last about four days cooking three meals a day on it.
 
When we bought our 25 new in 2005 it came with the 2 burner Wallas that has worked well for heat and cooking. We have used mostly Kleen Heat but have used #2 diesel and kerosene in a pinch. Our back up stove is a good sized single burner Coleman propane stove that uses the small bottle as does the Magma grill in the cockpit. We use the propane stove and a 10 quart pot to cook 3-4 crabs at a time and this stove works well for that task. The Wallas would take forever and I don't like the idea of cooking crab in the cabin. We are looking for an option for auxiliary/supplemental heat perhaps a Newport diesel or a Dickinson propane. I don't want to highjack this thread for the heater topic. Can someone provide a link that talks about the diesel vs propane for auxiliary/supplemental heat?
