I Started a Blog Too!

No point really, just you know, like Everest, because it is there!

First real post was about Barry's and Patti's visit yesterday and our tour of Snoqualmie Valley.

It is really sort of to get the hang of it before we actually have something to blog about, like a Great Loop tour!

Find us here.

Congratulations, Pat. First, that's step one (is this a 12 step program?) And second, that's a great way of letting other people know about ANY trips you may take.

One suggestion, always a suggestion. When you insert a picture, let the back up be a full sized picture. I can't make out if that's you and Patty, or ? On trust it's you and Patty.

It is us of course - not sure how to do that, will see if I can figure it out...[on edit, OK, fixed it so you can view full size]

I've got one of these thing too but haven't done anything with it. A friend of mind just started full timing in their rv a few months ago and has been doing the blog thing. He is using Windows Live Writer to update the blog. He swears by it because of it ease to use. You can add pictures etc and see how it will look on the blog. I just downloaded it a few mins ago. As with most Microsoft stuff when you do the install make sure you un-check all the other programs if you don't want all the extra stuff.

I started just using Blogger's web interface, but Roger's post got me thinking about getting some blog authoring software for the Mac. This lets you do your writing offline, and upload whenever you want to. Obviously it is not going to be some dang Windoze software! A little Googling disclosed a number of programs, but I settled on one called ecto, am in the 20 trial period and will probably pay for it ($20 or something like that).

Yesterday's blog post is all about C-Brats and C-Dorys, called "What we Do for Fun." Joe - I cobbed your sig line, it was a toss up between that one and Dreamer's "Boating is not just a matter of life and death - it is much more important than that." I plan to work that one in to a future post!

You can also send blog updates to blogger via email. Very strait forward as I recall, and you can attach pictures too. This works great for blogging from the boat if you have an iPhone/BlackBerry/Treo...

I used to repair blogging equipment when I worked for Caterpillar..........no....wait.........I think it was actually logging equipment now that I think about it

While I very much enjoy reading the other guys', I got no time for a Blog. But I got me a Twitter. So, I see, do several others on here.

What, pray tell, is a "Twitter"?? Did the girls make you do it?

When I was in Florida I posted essentially the same material to the Brats site and to a blog like Pats, which you can see HERE, for the benefit of friends and family outside the Brats. It got to be somewhat of an ordeal to deal with the publishing demands of both platforms, but I did it mainly because that is what Jim B did and I wanted to share our trip with you guys also. The main issue is having to upload photos twice. Now that more of us are blogging, I would like to propose that we just post on C-Brats each time we update our blog. I realize that it puts material in two different places (not good) but unless there is some sort of blogging plugin for phpbb I don't know what the answer is. Ideas?

Warren, didn't your Momma ever ask you, "If Jim B jumped off a cliff, would you do it, too?" I started a blog last year so family could keep up with what we were doing in Yellowstone. It turned into a way for me to document what was happening with the boat maintenance issues. I still occasionally post on there, but have no idea if anyone is looking at it. I haven't been posting as often here, since the last two months haven't been C-Dory related. I do the same on the 5th wheel owners forum on which I participate. There is some cross-over (i.e. interest in the boat on that forum and occasional land travel stuff here). It means double posting images on occasion, but I keep ours very small so they download fast. The C-Brats is our "home", but I know there are sailors and RVers who occasionally look in here to see what we're up to.

We have been doing a printed travel newsletter (weekly, more or less) for family for over a decade, so when I work up an image for that, I make a smaller compressed file for forum posting if it's pertinent. The stuff in the newsletter is more personal, the stuff I post here is more boat related, and the stuff on the RV forum relates to that... except for the Izzy the cat images - she has quite a fan club on the RV forum.

Seems to me that once everyone is posting to their blog and reading everyone else's blog, our gross national production should drop to around zero. When we first started the Wild Blue thread here, blogging, face-booking, and twittering weren't at the forefront of folks' daily life. I figure most people don't really give a rat's rear what I had for breakfast, what color underwear I'm wearing, or where Paris Hilton and I are going clubbing tonight. I'm kidding, of course... I'm not wearing underwear.

What makes any thread interesting (for me) is the participation of other folks.

Best wishes,
Jim (who plans to be back on the boat in June)

Jim, I knew you were going to hammer me for that!

I didn't know the background of your blog, but the purpose of mine was much more straightforward: I have two populations that I want to communicate the Meanderings with. One is the Brats, the other is friends and family. I didn't want to send my F&F to c-brats.com, hence the blog.

I guess I am the only one dual-posting, from what you have said.

Warren

A few years back I did a blog on our North Channel trip (http://www.northchannel.blogspot.com) then when I started into the IronMan training and participation I started a blog (http://www.teambrazo.blogspot.com). Great tool to communicate your adventures.

But that has all changed since I have found Twitter (http://twitter.com/teambrazo). Twitter is perfect for me -- just 140 characters at a time ( I'm just not that interesting -- 140 is more than enough ).

I do follow many blogs (including Pat and Patty's) -- both boat related and IronMan related via BlogLines.com. I always enjoy reading what others are doing with their boats especially when there is 3 feet of snow on the ground.

Today's blog is about a visit yesterday from our good friends from New Jersey, Larry Filler and Nancy Johnson. Larry we learned was an eyewitness to history...read about it here.

Hi Pat,

Knowing someone that made it out really brings it home!

I attended a talk by someone that just made it out with some of the Firemen. Hearing a firsthand account is really incredible and moving. Glad your friend was okay.
