I Started a Blog Too!

Hearing history first-hand - what an experience for you two. And from such an understated friend - makes it even more profound. Life is truly a crap shoot, eh? But, luckily, your friend made the right roll ... I had a college classmate who didn't make it out.
 
Not a blog...but a 2nd addition book coming out soon by one of our C-Brats... about rocks and stuff.... Heard it was written by a couple of folks who love life, our planet and spent a lot of time on a 22' C-Dory...

anyone else heard the rumor?

Nice blog, Pat. We knew as teachers that it was improbable that we would have both time and money - we either quit our jobs early, in order to have time, or we worked until 65 to have money. We opted for time -- and are so glad we did. We quit our jobs (that we loved, and were well-recognized and happy doing) -- sold the works when the last went off to college, and the rest is history. For some people, abundant time might not be a blessing -- but, for some people, abundant money isn't either (read what happens to folks who win the lottery). But, it is worth pondering for every couple -- to retire or quit jobs takes some advance planning (and frugality) -- and the decision is yours.
 
Nice blog, I really like your style of writing Pat. The last entry, trading time for money has really got me thinking. Work vs boating/fishing, hmmmm.....

I've said this before: you can make more money, you can't make more time. The hardest part about walking away from a career is committing to the decision to do it. Most folks in the industry we were in are small business owners; we frequently heard the phrase, "work 'till you die." I used to say it myself... and came to the conclusion that it's not the fate we wanted. There may come a day that we choose (or need) to go back to work. As Pat said in his blog, there are too many instances of people making long range plans and not being able to live out those plans.

No regrets.

Well, I suspected the "trading money for time" piece might resonate...seems it has, thanks for the nice comments. Have some ideas for future pieces but not much time to write at the moment...but I wonder if the title of this thread might be changed to "Blogger Central" or something, and everyone with a blog can let folks know that they have put up something new.
 
Well, to tell the truth Warren, I don't know how to restrict it - it is wide open, obviously it may be more interesting to some people than others. I do nothing to promote it other than post here when a new article is added.

OK, I just took a look at the settings. It is set up to allow search engines to see it. I did the "click-through" drill in creating the blog, so that must be the default.

Just Googled "C-Dory" to see if the blog shows up yet - it does, on page 17 of the listings, after three listings for "Andrea C. Dory, Family Medicine, Bronx, NY." Guess it will take a few more readers to move up the list!

HI Pat, I subscribed to your blog and receive new posts through my Google Reader which lets me keep up with several other blogs and news feeds. Give it more time and posts and it will move up in the search lists....grin.
 
Thanks, for some reason it was not linked from rogerrockwell.com. Mary Jo - if you are reading this, you need to add the link! I now have Google Reader among my Homepage tabs, and have subscribed to Navagear and Superloop2009 - would appreciate suggestions for what others like to read. I have never really paid any attention to this until I started my own. Damn, it IS fun!!!!

I share more personal information in my own Meanderings blog than I would in a blog intended to entertain and/or elucidate, so I chose to not let the world see it. But I posted much of the same information to the Meanderings thread here -- and this site is crawled frequently. So it probably doesn't make any difference...

It is not how many readers that makes one move up the list, it is primarily how many other sites link to your site. There is a whole industry out there dedicated to improving website search engine optimization. A lot of it is guesswork because Google does not reveal all of the details on how it determines rankings.
