Ice box drain

After I removed the ice box from under the helm seat in my 22, I really appreciated the storage space. The ice box had a tubing connection to a thru hull fitting to remove the water after the ice melts. Now that it is removed, the thru hull fitting is terminated by a cork stopper, but I wonder what others have done. I am a little concerned with a hole in the hull so close to the waterline. I want to leave the thru hull fitting in place as it would be useful as refrigerator/freezer condenser drain if added down the road. Any thoughts?

I ended up with a "spare" through hull after I removed the Wallas. But I wanted to save it for future possible uses. I got a Groco through hull that is threaded on both the inside and the outside (would provide link but am on iPad and it is too bright out to see well). I installed that and then used an appropriate plug on the inside (with the inner threads on the through hull). All nice and secure and ready for future re-use.
 
It would be very unusual to have a refer/freezer condensate drain in the refer the sized used in the c Dory. How big is this hole? I probably would fill it, or put a solid bolt thru it, for now, if it is fairly small. I agree you don't want to have a cork for a thru hull stopper near the water line.
 
Good point. I haven't seen how they rigged the ice box drain, but unless you have a need to, no point making a bigger hole just to accommodate a through hull. What size is the hole now?

I put a piece of clear tube on mine & screwed/wire tied it to the top of the cabinet wall. Now it is a vent to nowhere!! :mrgreen: :beer
 
The hole is fairly small, maybe 3/16 outside diameter on the hose barb. In addition to the cork plug, I got a piece of tubing hose clamped on the barb now. Thanks.
