In Praise of Gary Estes Mobile Trailer Repair

Wow, Patty brought Daydream home today from Gary's shop in Issaquah. We just can't say enough good things about Gary's trailer service business.

Our travails with bearings are probably well known, so I won't repeat them here. Gary brought his van to our driveway and we had 4 wheels on the ground in nothing flat. I towed it to Gary's shop to take us from the damnable drum brakes that Mann's Eastside Trailer foisted upon us (avoid THEM like the plague) back to disc brakes. He did this for quite a bit less than King Salmon Marine quoted to us, and less than his own estimate. Plus Gary and his sons fixed a number of other problems we were not even aware of. Above all, he educated us on what we need to do to be SAFE, and his concern for safety above all is absolutely sincere.

In short, we HIGHLY recommend Gary Estes to anybody in Western Washington who needs trailer service.

Glad to see this Pat. Hope the articles helped a bit as there are a few that I attempt to re-read each year....or look for updated ones. Trailer maintenance, battery maintenance, and of course...the cleaning articles too. Much to do to have her water ready 12 months out of the year!!!

Mobile trailer repair dude....interesting and great idea! Now that some of your maintenance work is done....do not forget to go get the tires/wheels balanced! Makes a great difference.

Patty was supposed to buy a spare set of races, seals and bearings from Gary, I even left her a note to remind her. But she didn't. The invoice lists some "item numbers" and I will let others say whether these are actual part numbers or what.

Grease seal SL225-1
Bearing race 25520
Bearing 25580
Bearing cone 15123
Bearing cup 15245

How about posting the correct bearing and seal numbers?

Great to see you got back to disc brakes, Pat. Happy to hear that a pro did the job rather than me , the shadetree mechanic doing it . Money well spent and , by the way the part numbers look right to me.

I need to add my praise of Gary Estes as well. We had some brake issues on our last tow home from Bellingham. I decided to pull the drums and take a look about a week ago and quickly figured the damage was more than I wanted to deal with.... I called him on a Monday morning and dropped the trailer off that afternoon. Gary emailed an estimate the next day - he could salvage the axle/spindles by installing speedy sleeves. The money saved on the axle could be used to upgrade from drum to disk brakes. I gave him the go ahead for a new (Kodiak) disk system including a new actuator with back up solenoid.

I picked up the trailer this afternoon and I have to say I was really impressed with Gary. He would not let the trailer go until he had re-inspected everything. Once we hooked it all up it was obvious that the electrical connection was a bit short due to the different actuator. Gary called his next customer to let him know he was going to be a bit late and spent the time to rewire the electrical connection- the trailer was not going anywhere until Gary was satisfied it was right.

in the end, his cost was higher than he had originally estimated, but insisted that what he originally estimated was all that he would charge - he said that his estimate was a good as his word.

I can't offer a higher recommendation for anyone looking for trailer work. Word is obviously out since he is really busy, but in my mind it is worth the wait.
